I'd love a longer naming field, but not for that reason. The few mechs I have given real names to mostly fit but there is one I wanted to call "Double or Nothing" but I can't because it doesn't fit. "2x or nuttin" was the closest I can get within the character limit, and it just lacks the feel.
As it is, there a bunch of special mech names from lore that wouldn't fit in the current scheme. Which also feels wrong as obviously it's natural to give a mech a reasonably long name like "Lucky Thirteen".

Length Of Mechnames (Mechlab) Too Short!

Scroll over the Mech for two seconds to see an equipment list. Or hit the Mech Details button.
Problem solved. Low tech low brain solutions

Waiting for every mech in the list 2 seconds alone would take me more than 4 minutes. And I'm not even counting scrolling and time for trying to read that tiny little font. Plus, I still don't know the engine or modules.
And if I try to find out those, the whole process will take 20minutes because loading takes forever.

1: Create Smurfies of your builds.
2: Organize them in folders.
3: It takes time now but it saves time later, and requires nothing from the developers.
Or, if you're like most players, you'll have an idea of what to play in your head (e.g Light, Medium, Brawler, Boat) and you can just look around at the Mechs of that given descriptor. Shouldn't take that long.

That doesn't even make the smallest sense whatsoever. These mechs are toys we take out and play with every now and then when we feel like it, it's not like your car you drive to work. Why the heck would anyone need to remember exactly what you have on each little digital toy?
You mean you don't?
Why the heck do you need to have longer names on your Mechs? I'm an Old Man with failing memory and I can tell you what each of my 20 Mechs carry. And I only use my lights every blue moon. Sara hasn't been taken out of her bay in almost a year And I know what she still packs.

Maybe you need to consider people don't spend as much time thinking about their mechs as much as you, or that there are people that don't have as good memory as you? And some might rebuild their mechs more often than you? If you can consider that these things could be true, then you should realise why people could actually want more mechs than they can always recall exactly how they are built. I mean seriously man, just think on it a sec and get back to me.
