Not using VOIP is actuallly clanner roleplaying. So even if I am going to fight for every faction mercenary style should it ever become doable, I am still a trueborn clanner at heart.

okay...

if I remember it right, one of the biggest clan heros led his warriors into battle and coordinated them with the use of comms. They actually managed to build some kind of bridge in a river to jump over at tukayyid.

On the other hand, this "hero" Aidan pryde was one of the biggest cheaters and failed hard at his very beginning he hardly qualifies as a good clanner, quineg? :P :D

So if you aren't on Comms... How will you announce your Batchal?

As cheesy as BT lore sometimes this, this really makes sense.
If a player ("pilot" in lore) is really aware of the game, teamplayer, etc., most of the things to do are implicitely clear automatically, no need to speak them out.
I don't need anyone to tell me a banshee appeared on the map 5 seconds after I saw it myself on my own map.
I don't need anyone to announce which mech is cored where, I just shoot at the tactially (positionally) ideal target anyway. I won't run around for 20 seconds just to get a shot at a cored mech.

So the really necessary information boils down to something like "tunnel lots" or "they are flanking over b4"

Don't need voip and the 90% childish babbling in it for that

Actually if you are a trueborn warrior, you wouldn't. At least at the start of the invasion where you still thought we would fight with honor.

Yeah but if you followed the code of honor to the letter in this game you wouln't get many targets to shoot at since they are most likely already engaged. Though sometimes I hunt people down for solo kills. Like that missile boat that I killed deep in enemy territory the other day. Too bad my warhorn gave me away otherwise I would have killed some more maybe.

And thanks for calling me a good troll. I don't even try to troll at all.

In lore IS didn't had superpimped mechs everywhere. DHS, FF, ES, was just superrare.
No quirks, and no toned down clanweapons existed.

in lore the 1on1's were actually never really fair because the clanners had the better mechs and pilots. And so you surely would prefer 1on1 as someone in the OP mech. So the 1on1 matches of clanners vs IS never had a real fariness, while clan vs clan may be truly honorable.

On the other hand Aidan was immortalized by using voip while Kael Persaw was wall hacking for him in spectator mode and calling out targets for him. :P

I think clanners would kill IS pilots on sight and not drop with them in a casual friendly game of team death match, too. *shrug* Just sayin...

Why did so many games from decades past interpret "code of honor" with "lawful stupid"?

No, they would detsroy or disable their mech, but killing the pilot s very unlikely. Thats not clanners way at all. Unlike IS pilots that actually actively aim at cockpits and try to kill pilots.

Oddly enough, the Clans use comms quite a bit, it would be stupid not to for starters and how else can someone lay claim to a target except by telling the rest of the Star that one has picked X as their target?

If you don't want to use VOIP, then don't use it, but don't try and use a RP reason for not using it, because unless you are a deaf/mute driving a Mech, there isn't a RP reason to not use VOIP. And a deaf/mute wouldn't be allowed to pilot a Mech, just in case someone thinks they just got a bright idea. Clans wouldn't HAVE anyone with such obvious defects and the IS wouldn't allow someone who can't communicate to operate a Mech.

I'm sorry for my lack of clarity. So allow me to rephrase.

"I think clanners would Destroy IS Mechs on sight and not drop with them in a casual friendly game of team death match, too. *shrug* Just sayin..."

Hope that clears things up a bit.

Unless you are CJF or CSJ. But still, that's just being efficient. I thought Clanners were all about efficiency.

No its not efficient at all, no bondsman left if they die in their mechs.
Clanners are all about, my skills > your skills because my geneseed > geneseed. So how do you rub your superior skills under ones nose if that one is dead?
