What's More Enjoyable? Winning If A Roflstomp Roll, Or Losing In A Close Fought, Down To The Wire Last Man Standing Battle?

That or the game where I was the last guy alive in a Boar's Head trying to solo 4 guys, killed 3, and only died because I missed the last guy lol

The close fights are the best. Sometimes really nailbiting stuff going on there when a Atlas needs to take up against three mechs and still won the game.
Or the tension you see when a legged a Direwolf is left and you, with a teammate need to work together to take it out.
These kind of battles are worth to spec. The rest aren't and are a instaquit when rolled.

Yeah, but its no fun when the game ends in 2 minutes, after you did nothing more then walk around a fire 2 shots....I find those wins not even worth it.
Wins where each player can dish some, take some and it ends in a brutal fight are the best games. To bad MWO has none of that. Also, its why I love PVE...its always a brutal fight.

Often, people cry or blame the matchmaker, but the game was actually pretty close, they just don't know it.
Absolutely. But I would hope anyone with any experience knows the term "rolled" has to do with a lot more than the final body count. Rolls are those matches that last like 2 minutes (longer if it takes to hunt down the hiding "snipers") and you teams high achievers are like..200 dmg, and you see several in double digits. Etc. ad infinitum.
Give me a little credit, please, yeesh.

Yeah, not wins where you deal near no damage cuz the game ends in a stomp before you can even really pull the trigger.
I was in a CW game, we won with a 3 minute gen rush, I dealt less t hen 200 dmg, and made 60K I think it was.....yeah, like I said, not worth it....

A close 12-11 game means everyone had fun.
What is not fun? Dying early and only doing 250 damage.
What is fun? Dying near the end of the game after doing 500+ damage.
I'd be happy if every game I played was a 12-9, 12-10, or 12-11 game with a 50% win rate.
Stomping an enemy team 12-1 feels pointless. It just means the enemy team lost in the matchmaker.

You see, so often, I hear the basic mantra "Only Winning is Fun", in computer gaming these days. It's a mindset I reject, perhaps because I am not 1337, or perhaps that mindset is why I will never be such.
Maybe I'm old fashioned. When I say GG at the end of a match, whether it's a 11-12 slugfest, or a 12-1 roll, it's not to insult the other side, but for the same reason sports teams do a post game handshake after. To show respect and to remember...it's only a game. So for me, it's definitely the lose a close fought, down to the wire battle. Winning by any means, finding the path of least resistance.... I find it boring. So I champion the Urbanmech, the Vindicators and other bad mechs. Because making them work, having a 600 dmg/ 1-2 match in one of them, for me, is 10x more satisfying then running my Timberwolf and getting 5-7 kills and 1000 damage.
But I am curious about the mindsets, and thoughts of people on all sides of the equation. There is no right or wrong answer here, as "fun" is subjective, and thus varies from person to person. (Some people find math fun, after all. go figure, lol) This post may seem biased, but that's because I can only really speak from my own perspective. I'm curious to hear yours.
And please. Let's at least try to keep this respectful to each other.
GG to means "good game." That means it has to be a good game. Throwing it out there as a "sportsmanship" thing is just false. If you notice, it's usually the winning team that ggs. If you beat the enemy 12-0 gg is pretty low class honestly.
I'll say it if the game was actually good and close.
I'd rather have a very close loss, where both teams played well than a roflstomp win. But, both teams have to play well.
