I dunno... I reckon that many mechs people feel are borked are just really, really well designed.

Most other mechs have some flaw or another - giant ST's, huge legs, some sort of easy to laser vom-vomify protrusion... but the FireStarter is just a perfectly proportioned svelte little murder machine.

I look at a mech like the FireStarter, with it's futuristic... bits, and well torso'ed torsos, then glance at the Awesome, running on a treadmill, desperately fighting a battle it can't win against the morbid obesity gripping it's frame, and i'm... sad.

Then I get in my FireStarter, and i'm not sad. I just feel dirty.

Ok I'll entertain that notion - that maybe it's not borked - rather everything else else is broken.

well the issue is that the FS9 and the raven truly have bad hitreg, clear shots and hits just have like over 50% damage disappearing. together with their hitboxes spreading the damage quite well making them more tanky than assaults even.

You'll rethink that as soon as people start aiming for your legs like they should.

And its not just the FS, its any fast light, hitreg just isn't honest when it comes to damage against lights.

Let me pilot one, I will prove your hitbox theory false.

While i do hate the FS9, the hitreg problems seem to come and go.

In the last few matches i killed 2 Firestarters by hitting their opened side torso while chasing them in my Pirates Bane. No problem whatsoever, they were not even cored.

But I always remember that one time in which i alpha'ed a still Firestarter in the back with 6 LL and it didn't even wink.

Hard to not be biased against that ugly thing.

When I started on lights I started with a Spider 5v with 2 ML. Then I went to locusts, commandos, finished spiders... then I hit Jenners and finally FS9.

by the time I got to Jenners, I had light mechs figured out to say the least. I know Jenners don't favor as well anymore because the laser hitreg is so much better it takes CT hits, but I still average 400+ dmg in them with some ML when I get antsy and take one out.

FS9, it's like... if you apply what you know from other lights, you can basically single handedly swing the game to a win for your team, kills or not, by applying critically placed dmg and using the hate magnet factor to draw fire from your bigger pals. EVEN IF YOU DON'T play FS9 "skillfully", the mech can absorb dmg like a mofo. It's the "eh I am just gonna run around and be annoying" match play style and it can still net an "average" game score.

FS9, is EZ mode over 9000 when it comes to light mechs. It's like playing a laser Crow, you just have to show up.

5kills 650damage isn't all too impressive for a competitive player, which I believe you are?! I had better results with Panters and I'm not even close to being competitive. So doesn't look too borked to me. Quirks need to be tuned down a little on some FS9 but we don't want Raven like hitboxes or any other such BS on the Firestarter, do we?

dunno, jenners seems not as magically gifted and spiders as FS9's and ravens. While surely, its quite rubbish on all fast lights, these 2 are like 50% more worse.

if that was really his first match in an FS9 it is quite good, and wait until he had more matches and masteries unlocked.

and raven like hitboxes? the second most unhitable mech in the game? ROFL.

I may have misunderstood, but it seems to me as though you're saying Ravens are hard to kill. If that's the case, ROFL.

Fart in their general direction and they take leg damage.

Everything I can't kill easily is borked and has broken hotboxes, and everything that kills me is overpowered!

Unless its the mechs I play, then they need buffs!!!

PGI has let me down!

Man, I'm just a simple unfrozen caveman MechWarrior
EMBER 1 1 0 1.00 5 0 5.00 621 6,406 00:09:24

I ate some ballistics from a King Crab early in that were pretty silly. Where the damage went, I dunno. The last guy alive was a ballistic Hunch, can't remember the built, but I basically said "look how silly this is" and stood in front of him and rocked back and forth at 5-1kph lasering his shoulder off. Only one of his shots landed chest as I popped it off and then went chest on him. It was pretty obnoxious at that point cuz I'm just staring at the guy from 200m barely even moving and Hunch is barely able to hit. All I'm sayin is I don't think I try and act that way in say, a Commando or Kit Fox. He would've shot my balls off.

It only took one round to see that I can dance in front of some guys face at point blank and shrug damage off into the void with this mech.

Thus the "****s gimp" line in chat; this mech, something about it is ****** up. Just sayin.

don't let the other Comps hear you say that. They defend the virtuous FS9 with the ferocity of one protecting their daughter's chastity.

It's all SKILLtm, really.

...I'm not comp tho... retired from all that ****... just cuz you see me on the block wreckin underhivelings doesn't mean I'm reppin mah squad brah... you don't see me in leagues these days... bah, you'll get what I mean sooner or later.

I don't judge people who take this mech into a serious match, do your thing, but to act like it doesn't soak phantom damage better than other lights is to live/pilot in denial. Not that such a notion matters in any tangible way...

I don't judge them for taking into serious matches. To play Comp, you gotta run all the "legal exploits" broken mechanics, etc, or you will lose because the other team will.

Nope. My only issue is with them vociferously pretending they don't have hitreg issues, just like they used to claim the Spider didn't (when PGI had to fix it because it did) or the old glory days when the RVN-3L was the undeniable king of the hitreg lottery.

It's a laughable cycle.

Community comments on the demonstrable issues loudly for quite some time.
Those using that advantage deny it and decry the rest as Bads
A year later, PGI admits it and rectifies it
And the former Champions of said mech move on to something else and say nothing.

Rinse, wash, repeat.

I was averaging 3 K/D at 500 damage with a trial starter in the cadet queue when I started this account. Its less the chassis more the level of derp you find pugging. Specially if you aren't a frequent light pilot.
