There is no reason that sort of thing cannot be implemented here... and it would add a new flavor to the battle experience.
I also think players would find a stock mode variant to be very entertaining as well.

Right now I have a Warhawk, a Timber, a Crow and a Lynx. I wanted the Adder instead of the Lynx but it wasn't possible.

250 is more then enough.
More would break the system.
Having said that, I would like to see a C-Bill bonus for coming in under tonnage.

The Stalker/Thunderbolt/Thunderbolt(or Dragon1N)/Firestarter(or raven) IS dropdeck is such stale cheese it makes me want to puke.
About the same reaction IS pilots have to Timberwolf/Stormcrow/Stormcrow/Stormcrow, I imagine. (Or Hellbringer/Hellbringer/S-crow/S-crow...)
Using the 1/1/1/1 limit would fix alot of that cheese.
If you want to be competitive in CW, you should have to diversify and learn *all* of the aspects game from *all* angles. Nobody with a one-track-mind for assaults/quirks/whatever should be dominating the competition.

Eventually I would love to see a planet with a tonnage limit of 150 for a backwater and 300(or more) for the more populous/strategic planets. It would be a way to keep things interesting.

Actually, use a Raven 4X with the high mounted left arm ballistic hardpoint instead. It would allow you to hill hump even better and you have up and down arm movement for your weapon.

Well, yes, that would be useful. But the point I was making is that you can make your lights feel like assaults by stripping their engine and giving them a 80 or 60 kpm move speed. Add in the high tonnage fire power, and it feels like a heavier mech, even if you hardly have comparable armour. I wasn't actually trying to suggest something the OP could use.
My IS drop load out is all stripped engines for slower but harder hitting mechs. Way I saw it was, I wanted to move with the team anyways, so no need to outpace anyone. It feels like an assault deck, even though it's got two Shadowhawks and a Firestarter.
Frankly, I find the whole thread superfluous, but that's no reason not to have some fun. Seriously though, try it, buy a 150 standard engine and tell me if that doesn't make any mech feel like an assault when your racing the Daishi on your team, and trying to compete with it for damage, due to the ridiculous amount of firepower you can fit inna something you've already gotten used to playing.

Since I know there are other people who's can be effective in assaults (heavies, meds) only, I think we need something more complex. Like if we have 48 mechs per CW drop, there should be some certain range of number of each class (i.e 10 to 14) and with some global tonnage limit (counted for whole drop, not per player). Do you want to one guy bring 4 Direwolfs or Crabs 'cause he is really good in? No problem. But you need to bring another guy with 4 lights only to be able to fit the drop ships load/class limit.

Point is, I would have LOVED to bring 4 IS light mechs or maybe a few CDA's to bolster it. I'm not the slow stompy loving pilot, I like to run around, jumps around...stick and move. But I adapted, learned some new skills and fleshed out my drop deck.
There is a reason the system is designed the way it is, and for now its working IMO.
Get in a light/medium mech and learn to pilot it. If you don't like the stick and move stuff then jump in a Raven with some LL or perhaps the STD200 Centurion, slow, stompy, deadly.
From light pilot to front tanking Zeus, be the best mechwarrior you can be...dont hamper yourself to a single chassis or weight class.

I agree with this, good idea. I also feel the tonnage limit is a bit too high currently, the average tonnage of a mech should be a medium, now you can take 4 heavy mechs if you want, which is a little too generous IMO.
I'm somewhat ok with the current tonnage too, absolutely do not raise it.
The best of course would be to have different limits for different missions/planets/game mode/attack/defense etc.
