I'm just curious as to why the clan 'mechs are so expensive, even though PGI is attempting to balance them evenly with the "cheaper" IS 'mechs. Why does a Summoner (a mediocre Heavy) cost more than twice as much as a Cataphract (a good Heavy), even though the Cataphract is arguably better? I'd have to grind out about 42 million C-bills to master the Summoner line, and only about 16 million C-bills to master the Cataphracts. Doesn't that seem ridiculous?

Edit: I have been chastised for my ignorance. I had failed to account for the "fixed" equipment in clan 'mechs. My bad.

Because Clan mechs come with XL engines, double heatsinks, good weaponry, ferro-fibrous armor...

They come equipped with advance equipment standard. XL engines, structure and armor mods...perhaps even more weapons mounted.

Mech prices reflect actual costs in game.

Smurfy seems to be updating for a moment...so I can't show you how wrong you are.

Unless you're building with a STD engine, you'll be at a similar cost.
Clams come with DHS and XL engines, occasionally with Ferro and Endo.

XLs cost a few million, DHS is a flat 1.5mil tax, and Endo is a few hundred thousand. Two of those are required for the grand majority of serious builds, XLs are dependant.

IS lights cost more than Clan lights because of the large XL requirement, while Stalkers and Thunderbolts cost less because of the STD engine feasibility.

Ok. Makes sense. But do the base chassis cost aout the same (if you were to theoretically strip all the additional stuff)?

Almost, the extra c-bills are for the one piece of equipment you can't remove - the engine.

Identical cost for the base chassis; plus the 8 Omnipods, plus the engine, plus the weapons equipped on it.

Their costs are the components added up.

The costs even out. Yeah it costs a lot up front to master a Clan chassis, but you get to sell two of the three since you only need one of them to make any build you want with it. With IS mechs you need to keep all three, and usually have to buy more, if you want to use all of the hardpoint loadouts for the Chassis, and level each mech you want to use individually. If you really want to get into it, I'd say IS mechs are more expensive as they require a lot more mechbays to keep a versatile mech selection. I need 4 mechbays to house all my Ravens and a lot of cbills to keep them equipped, but my 1 Adder is good to go with any Adder build I could want.

On a per mech basis the costs are roughly the same on average once the IS mech buys upgrades and equipment, leaning one way or the other depending on builds.

The biggest cost in Clan omnimechs in MWO is the XL engine, I think.

The other high cost to them is that you're paying for each pod for the chassis. There are seven pods, being each leg, each arm, each side torso, and the head. They add up to a few extra million C-Bills for each chassis, the assault 'mechs having more expensive pods than the lighter 'mechs.

It's because Clan Mechs have that aura of OPness. People will pay big bucks for that Clan OPness.

Clans are actually OP and most have not been able unlocked the secret to to Clan OPness.

Strange. Last time I looked, clan tech cost the same as IS tech in comparison, or is way too cheap for the tonnage advantage.

I wish my Nova came with Ferro... Or Hellbringer, for that matter.
