Despite the likely large hitboxes I'm getting kinda hyped, I love mechs with all 3 weapon hardpoint types.
Until smurfy has the Mauler info I'll be using notepad to craft:

MAL-2P
275 Standard (49.5 kph)
464 Armor
2x LB10X
6x LB10X Ammo
2x SRM4
3x SRM Ammo
2x MPL
6x DHS
48.80% Heat Efficiency

MAL-MX90
300 XL (54 kph)
464 Armor
4x AC5
15x AC5 Ammo
2x MPL
43.29% Heat Efficiency

Not enough slots since missiles and ACs will both be in the side torsos. Of course you could run 1x AC20 and then SRMs in the opposite.

12 slots in side torsos, AC/20s take up 10. You can fit in an AC/20 and an SRM6 in each torso though I wouldn't recommend it, it's going to get far too hot if you bring backup weapons (without additional heatsinks, 2AC/20 + 2SRM6 puts you at 40% heat efficiency without any backup weapons,2x ML added puts it to 28%)

4xLB10-X w/9t ammo, 2xML, STD 200 engine, max armor. Not gonna make it, but I know someone will, and it will be so silly and yet fun.

I would go for the MAL-1R

Endo Steel
Std armor ( 544 points )
Std Engine 275
3 double Heat Sinks ( one in engine )
2 LRM10 with 2 tons of ammo ( makes 18 shots )
2 large lasers
2 machine guns with 1 ton of ammo
2 AC5 with 3 tons of ammo ( makes 45 shots )
2 CASE

Now of course may not be final as there is no way to test that. At 35% estimated Cooling Efficiency I feel its a bit too hot. I might swap the LRM10s for putting 4 LRM5s instead, this gives 2 tons more to put a 290 engine, in turn it will hit the cooling but makes Mech faster and a better rate of fire for the LRMs. In the case testing proves the Mech is too hot, I will dump the large lasers to put medium pulse ones, shave a bit of armor down to 528 points, exchange the 270 or 290 engine for a Std 300, add a double heat sink and one ton of ammo for the weapon I use most.

Again nothing is final, once its out then we will see the true nature of this Iconic Mech.

Used to be my fav assault in the MW4 games, but I used Rotary Cannons and it chewed anything to pieces. As they dont exist in MWO, im guessing lots of AC2 will be the way forward.

Here are my thoughts on the Mauler:

So, what do we have?

90 t, max. Eng. is 325, no JJ, no ECM; high shoulders that hopefully get not placed, if I don´t use missles; otherwise using a XL-Eng. seems unwise.

So the Mauler is like a Highlander, meening he is as slow as an Atlas, but 10 t lighter :/ ... but atleast he does have some good placed hardpoints, here the summary from the resistance page:

Posted Image

They are all very similar, only the number of weapons varies. Here are my Proto-Builds for the Mauler:

Doublegauss, nicely placed in it´s side torsi:

Spoiler

4* UAC/5, light-weight King Crab, slow, but easier to use weapons because of their location:

Alternative:

not as good, because the slots were running out, so I had to compromise a bit; besides that I don´t really like to mix ultras und standard ACs;

Brawler, light-weight Atlas:

Spoiler

instead of the AC/20 a Gauss could be used, making it less hot and giving an option for ranged combat;
the thing is, there is no advantage compared to an Atlas, who can do the same, but has ECM and more armour;

Double AC/10 (basically a better Catapult K2):

Spoiler

And two more "mixed" builds:

my current idea for the mauler runs a bit hot, but I want to see if i could make a beefy brawler with a lot of close range punch. It goes something like this...

Model: MAL-2R

Armament:

6x Medium lasers
2x U-AC/5
2x SRM6

Edit: added 2 extra srm 6's that shouldn't be there. oops

Going either gauss nipples or ac20 nipples with wubs for backups. What else do you really need?

After looking at the previews I upgraded my Crab pack to the Mauler, it looks fun plus you get tons of premium time!

I'm mainly a medium pilot so speed is important to me.

I'll probably use this as a base for all my varients:
325 Engine
Endosteel IS
Double HS
Almost max armor (14 points shaved from head and legs)

That leaves 38 tons and 34 slots for weapons and other equipment.

I'll try an 4 ASRM6 brawler, a 4 AC Dakka, and maybe a duel Gauss or AC20 build. Plus a lurm build because... well, why not?

So, this is the breakdown of what each variant specializes in according to the recently announced quirks:
  • MAL-1R: LRM15 (yay!), ballistics
  • MAL-MX90: ballistics
  • MAL-1P: ballistics, PPC
  • MAL-2P: UAC, lazors

MAL-1P "Walking Bomb":
  • Left-click: 2x Gauss (on the side torsi with 5.5 tons of ammo)
  • Right-click: 2x PPC (on the arms)
  • XL325 (64.3kph), 10DHS
Weapon modules: PPC cooldown (to match the Gauss' CD), PPC range

For shits and giggles builds, mx90, 6x ac/2 & ml+ whatever else fits with ammo. Or, mx90 with 6xmg, 2x lpl, and 2x srm6. Totally going for idiot builds on this one in pug queue. More likely I'll use a quad ac/5 plus ml and srm4 for close in backup.

ML-MX90 w\ 6x AC2s AC5s :wub:

Sounds like a myth but it's real. 7 tons of ammo + 2 small lasers, dakka has a dmg potential of 1050.

So, the 3 Maulers I find best with some "first-idea" builds::

Posted Image

sadly no Jam-chance quirk, but the 12,5 % cooldown is nice; my first game with it:

Posted Image

ammo felt a bit low, so I armoured down the arms und put some ammo into them;

Posted Image

no cooldown for the balistic weapon in this one, but laser quirks; but beware:gauss and XL are somewhat "fickle";

Posted Image

The "Hero"-Variant, this time nearly the best one of the bunch, definitively versatile;

Just finished 3 of 4 builds. All three are running standard 300's with 12 double HS, added Endo, dropped the Fero, added AMS and 1 ton of ammo.

The Champion build I made into an LRM-15 boat, just because I have no LRM based mechs and couldn't think what else to do with it (4 LRM-15 +A, 1 ML, 1 Tag, 11 tons of ammo, and a beagle, the rest armor. Figure I will give it a go on defense CW once it is elited.

The build with the PPC quirk I did 2 PPCs and 2 AC/10s, 4 tons ammo, the rest armor.

The other P build (the one without the PPC quirks) I did 2 LB-10xs, 5 tons ammo, 2 large pulse lasers, and a beagle and the rest armor.

I may reconsider one of these (probably the PPC build) and reconfigure to AC/20s and med lasers and make it a short range build. My thinking atm though is that even with a max engine the mauler will be too slow to be effective with a short-range only build on many maps. We shall see.

Haven't figured out what I want to do with the 4th one yet.

On the 1P variant, having success running it like my DWF. 310 XL engine, 2xGauss, 2xLPL, 2xML. I run three weapons groups, dual gauss on 1, LPL & ML on 2 and 3. Works pretty well and is a 600 dmg per round so far. I know in my DWF with the same setup I consistently hit 800-1200, but clan weapons hit harder and the DWF tanks better. The IS XL is not ideal, so I have max armor in the important spots. I am pleased with the Mauler thus far, and it should only improve with the elite skills unlocked.

On a sidenote: Ran the 90 with 6XAC2 and 2xERLL.... do not recommend but it is trolly
