While I was playing with the mech lab, I noticed I can only place items if I drag them directly on top of an open spot in the mech. If I try to drag the item into a component, and place it on top of another item, it will not work (even if there are more than enough slots for the item) This is also true for Clan mechs that have fixed components.

Hope I am making sense, I am cutting down on caffeine after a super busy period of work, and I think it is harming my ability to communicate :(

I'd like to tack on to this that components being overridden (particularly Double Heat Sinks because of their size) is rather clunky. If you drag over an existing piece of equipment rather into an empty slot the existing component is removed and the new one inserted into its slot.

Now that I think about it, this may be the design intention, but I personally find it slower than removing and replacing components.

Moving this here because this thread is more relevant to the behavior I was describing.

I have to agree, that this is rather annoying. Items should never replace other items and right now you have to place them very precisely on an empty slot to put them in. In Smurphy, we can place items anywhere on a component and it automatically adds it to the next empty slot. That is much faster and more convenient.

I'm not sure I agree with the never part. If I have a large laser and I want to swap it out for a medium laser, I'd really like to be able to drag a medium laser over and drop it on the large laser. I think increasing the size of the drop area would do better than removing the ability to replace items. By that I mean things like dropping an item over the armor numbers would count as adding it anywhere in that component. Dropping it specifically over a heatsink/laser/etc replaces it.

seems like a pain to install heatsinks in the engine as well :|

Exactly this. It would be much easier to drag heatsinks onto the engine itself instead of that tiny bar where the heatsinks go.
