In the old Mechlab, one feature that was cool was the ability to show different details of a mech just by clicking a mech's parts. If this feature was updated in the new mechlab, it would be easier and quicker as well as unique.

Here is the old version of the feature:

Is it really necessary to have clickable limbs with the smurfy style layout? Perhaps with the column view, but I don't see myself using that view.

Well, it's practically impossible with the smurfy / expanded layout. But the whole point of the column view is to make it simple and pretty for new players, and the ability to click limbs would be very helpful in that regard.

I'd do it like this.

Interfaces sometimes serve themselves from redundant functions that offer different approaches to the same task (as not everyone is the same). In my pov, that can make sense if:
1/ Both ways are independent and do not require the other to function properly
2/ The fact that one exist should not interfere with the other

So, clicking mech parts, as an alternative way, seems an excellent solution to me and could prove valuable for new players to facilitate navigation.

I'm not partial to Smurfy's either. Whenever I click on a Smurfy's link, I struggle trying to make sense of anything.

I really miss the simplicity, speed, and ease of use that UI1.5 offered. The clickable mech limbs, the clickable mech doll and the hover over effects to show equipment locations was incredibly helpful and UI2.0 is sorely lacking.
