LRMs comes in packs of 10, 15 and 20 with really no regard on how the missile pods would be best designed so I suggest the following.

Half-sized missile pod: 4 x 2 missiles

Full-sized missile pod: 4 x 4 missiles

Extra-sized missile pod: 5 x 5 missiles

Yeah, I can't draw you pictures but I'm sure that you will figure it out.

Take a look on the missile pods on the Mad Cat, notice the one in the corner thats plugged shut because the rules only allowes 15 missiles?

Yeah that sort of thing.

LRM 8, 16, 25?

Why would those designs be best?

Ninja'ed.

Thats what missiles pods would look like in reality in order to maximize the numbers of missiles.

And no LRM 8, 16, 25 but as I said: half-sized missile pod, full-sized missile pod, extra-sized missile pod and you put whatever type of missiles in there that you like.

The timber wolf pic is merely aesthetics though. And modern day reality cannot always be applied to lore and remain congruent, because if you pushed your logic to the furthest extents then Mechs are really impractical in combat because they afford no air power and can only dominate a very small section with their outrageously short-ranged weapons.

Besides, missile racks looks fine in the redesigned mechs:

That one is a "good" example of bad missile pod design. ;)

A better design would put more missiles into the same space.

I don't think many people are too concerned about it though - sure it may be very stupid to have LRM-10, 15, 20 in real life, but it works in the game ;)

It's not really a glaring problem. If there's something to quip about it's why machine guns do no damage beyond 150 meter LOL

Can you tell me what is achieved by this change? How it benefits the player base or the game in any significant manner?

...and a Archer do fire 12 missiles out of his LRM 20.
and with the diameter of the missiles - a mech can hardly load 120 or 240 of them...

Wow guess FP is trying to make a name for himself in the MWO community. Not sure why you would want to do this? Plus it's LRM5, LRM10, LRM15, and LRM20. We already have lots of choice, why would we want 3 subcategories of each of those? Do you want to do the same thing with SRMs?

Well if its only aesthetics I really do not care.

but maybe we can give each mech green toenails if we are at it... I think a bolt was also missing at the Atlas left leg.

The weapons (and a few other items) of MWO, as published on the Facebook page on June 01:

Posted Image

Also, a note on the missiles themselves:
Canonically, LRMs come in units of 120 missiles per metric ton (1000 kg, or ~2204.62 lbs), which works out to 8.33 kg (or ~18.36 lbs) per individual missile.
Canonically, SRMs come in units of 100 missiles per metric ton (though only 90 are carried when SRM-6 launchers are used ), which works out to 10.00 kg (or ~22.05 lbs) per individual missile.

In other words, the missiles launched by BattleMechs are actually about the same size as those fired by real-life infantry from hand-held launchers, such as the Stinger (missile weight: 10.1 kg; missile diameter: 70 mm (~2.76 inches)) and the Redeye (missile weight: 8.3 kg; missile diameter: 70 mm).

So... given that the missiles are allotted in full tons (so that "the number of salvos per unit of ammunition" is a known and consistent value) and that the launchers would logically have to include venting ducts for the exhaust gases, space for the ammunition feed mechanisms for each missile tube, hardware and connectors for the coolant and fire control systems, and a host of other considerations, having the missiles "shoulder-to-shoulder"/"packed like sardines" (as would be the case with an externally-mounted weapon that didn't have to reload, like the M260 and M261 rocket pods (7 tubes and 19 tubes, respectively) used on some attack helicopters) is not necessarily - or likely - the best configuration for BattleMechs' missile launchers.

I think that I need to explain my suggestion once more and the title of my thread might be a little bit wrong but I can't change it.

Forget about LRM 10, LRM 15, LRM 20, SRM 2, SRM 4 , SRM 6 and whatever you have besides those big Arrow IV missiles since they are a compleatly different entity alltogether.

Now this is what I suggest replaces all of the above with this:

Half-sized missile pod - fires 8 missiles at a time (4 by 2)

Full-sized missile pod - fires 16 missiles at a time (4 by 4)

Extra-sized missile pod - fires 25 missiles at a time (5 by 5)

And these pods you can fill up with either LRMs or SRMs but it must be the same type of missiles for that pod.

I have been thinking about one more thing - the introduction of the MRM or medium ranged missile.

LRMs fires in a high arc and obviously has a long range and SRMs fires more directly on to their target and has a short range.

So I suggest the following: increase the range of the LRM slightly but nothing spectacular and introduce the MRM that fires in a lower arc than the LRM and has a shorter range.

I guess that everyone will express negative feelings towards this as well.
