So I read through all 67 pages of drama and not one person has cited neither the person banned nor the cheats they used. I was quite disappointed upon my completion of said labor. All I gather was that he was in the NKVA unit.

Funny coincidence, I finished reading right before I finished a match where I could detect and alpha strike 6 dead mechs as soon they finished turning a corner. Who needs wall hacks when you can *already* have seismic??? :)

edit: wow, I guess I took too long to post

Citing the person banned violates the "name and shame" rules.

The policy is appropriate. It will provide confidence to the player base that there is something being done to keep the game on the level. It is also timely as PGI is on the cusp of Steam release, theoretically bringing in a pile of new players. Statistically, X% of players will try to cheat, so it is important to have something in place to stop it.

"Rare" is rare, but it becomes kinda less rare when the population gets bigger. % wise it might be the same, but the more people start doing it the more stories creep up etc. It is vital to keep it under control.

i kind of would like to know who this person was mostly so I know what qualifies as "high profile" around here. Otherwise I generally could give a rip about what the tryhards do minus when it affects my gameplay.

Edit: Nevermind, I figured out who it was. I have never heard of this person before. Either didn't play in solo drops(or stunk it up in them) or didn't write anything of note on the forums to be memorable.

How do you know that a cheat is detectable?

Not actually expecting an answer of course, just saying that some cheats are/could be undetected at this point and you don't know.

I think they'd want to stay quiet on the tools they use, otherwise hackers might use that info to circumnavigate said tools.

Most cheat detection stuff looks for things modifying or memory, I think. From the literature i've read about wallhacks in particular, they inject API's into memory to retrieve player positions, or use DLL injection maybe. If you can retrieve player positions from memory, you can shenanigan with them. Both wallhacks and aimbots work on the same principle.

This stuff is detectable to varying degrees - from "easily" to "Jesus we need an external program to look at this".

MWO could have something built into the client, or could have something checking server traffic for shenanigans.

SPECULATION.

Wait, am I able to talk about this?

Unfortunately details must be provided, even if only to those involved. When actual cash is involved the standards of evidence are raised and allowing a company with a past history of how should we say "unethical behavior" to just waltz over paying customers is ludicris

Hell no. Being paying customer means absolutely nothing. We all signed the EULA to let PGI have its way with player bans, now abide by it.

True, though I don't think they fear it. I think they are understandably cautious.

I am eagerly awaiting PGI's response to the questions posed earlier in the thread as well as an indication that they have contacted the accused player with evidence in support of their banning. If they have done so it should be a simple matter to say that.

I am not interested in seeing people blindly support PGI's decision to crucify a (well) paying customer with no concrete reason to do so aside from a few questionable gifs taken through the notoriously buggy spectator mode by users.

An eula is one side of a contract, whereby PGI must be able to provide proof of the infraction. Also, have you even read the EULA?

Your opinions are all unimportant to me. The only thing I am interested in is PGI's response. If they wish to operate like this, they are losing money in the long term. The people posting here blindly in support of summary unexplained bans are the tiny minority of players.

I wanted to do this at least once, then I'll shove off and leave it be....

Next on the chopping block for the hoards of players who have an axe to grind with him. I suspect a similar scenario will be playing out very soon.
