Macros don't really give you a significant advantage in MWO other than maybe sparing your poor fingers from being strained by fast repetition so they seem to be fine. Many don't use them since like, automating uac2 double taps is a really niche use case that's kinda pointless to bother with and automating custom chain fire is just... worse than alpha striking instead. These are clearly allowed.

There have been a few cases where the game has had a bug that you can make a macro to exploit like the one that let you abuse the RAC charge and jam bar some time ago. Exploiting bugs for competitive advantage is clearly cheating, but those known bugs have been fixed by now.

i remember when i first got my ultraviolet, i was accused of cheating. because my uac2s weren't jamming. the reason they weren't jamming, were because they were not uac2s, but cac2s, and if the noob would have hit r he would have known that. he couldn't fathom a situation where cacs were useful and just assumed.

Personally i feel Macros are cheating.. But others feel differently. I remember reading about this time.. Didn't some cheating youtuber out all his cheating mates or something.

The main point of macros is to reduce physical stress on your hands and wrists TBH.

I can think of basically three use cases for macros:
1. A toggle for things you want to be consistently on while you use other weapons, i.e. TAG, MGs, and maybe flamers.
2. Chain-firing AC2s or U/AC2s. This is objectively worse from a DPS perspective and is mostly for the increased screenshake. Fair trade IMO. Same thing as in-game chainfire except there's no long-*** delay between firing each weapon.
3. Having one fire group bound to M1 and a second bound to M2 instead of having to switch back and forth.

All three of those things should have been implemented in MWO to begin with and are convenience/ease-of-use functions rather than DPS boosts. I understand why people would use them. Stuff like the old RAC exploit are obvious exceptions. This isn't altering game values or giving ESP or anything, it's literally just expanded key rebinding. MWO isn't a game where you can or would want to automate a long series of inputs for a direct advantage, which is where macros tend to step over the line.

Let this ol' pal rest, guys. If you want to outline a player's misconduct via cheating, for example, contact support with a video at best and the match ID. Bringing it to the forum is against the CoC.
