So if destructible terrain is added, like trees and such, will flamers be able to ignite them causing AoE heatspikes?

This sounds like the kind of excuse they would use to justify never buffing the Flamer...
This would also require the red team to actually decide to wander into a flaming forest or not try to run away when the trees near them are ignited.

Well think about it... heat spikes + laser vomit = ?
Since they're adjusting the terrain for maps, why not throw some patches or woods into the areas people like to camp or herd towards?

Umm if you watched the video of the so called burning trees, you will notice nothing actually burns.
The flamer hitting the tree makes lots smoke and sparks but nothing actually burns (not even any actual flames from or on tree), just smoke and sparks then,,, nothing, tree still there green as ever..
just a gimmick..

This would not just impact flamers, it would affect lasers too since they are beams of energy... ...unless the lasers have the ability to slice trees in half since they are focused beams...

We dont know if lasers may do the same effect on trees. Either way, I doubt suddenly its worth it to build a Flamethrowing-Lumberjack.

If nothing else....they could at least bump up the Crit multiplier (they are supposedly "Crit Weapons").
MGs are at 9x crit damage...while Flamers are at 1.1x. That's on top of lower range, more weight, less damage.
Making them not useless would of course be welcome.

One day, boating Flamers will be the meta.
You heard it here first.

If literally hosing a mech down with multiple flamers for two minutes straight does nothing, then I don't see why walking through a burning forest would have any sort of impact. These mechs can walk through rivers of molten lava, for God's sake.
And I imagine trees will incinerate the same way from being shot with lasers as with flamers.
Flamers are going to remain useless until PVE. That much is very clear by now.

In that same video they did say that animations and visual effects are still in progress.
They were mainly showing off the basic physics and collisions.
I think it'd be a little silly for them to put this much work into tree's, and not have them atleast catch fire and go black when lasers or flamers hit them.

The tech demo didn't show the fire staying around too long, so at it'd current state, i'd say no.
If the fire stays for 1 or 2 minutes, maybe. Could you imagine the fiery trees showing up as false targets? You could mask movement and make it hard for the enemy to acquire legitamate locks through the fire. I think that would be unique.
If that could happen, it would be fun.
As a side note, imagine setting mechs on fire. A mech on fire would be easier to acquire a lock on and easier to track. It also would lose some heat sink efficiency till the fire was out. Fire maybe lasts as long as a NARC beacon?
Flamers also wouldn't stack.
It would make things a lot more interesting.

Flamers are used to create smoke in TT.
It's awesome!

It was the meta for a bit in MW4, for a while flamers got buffed enough that it became easy to boat them and shut down & cook enemies until they exploded. It was very much like stun-lock builds in MMORPG's where you can simply render another player helpless as you kill them. That sort of thing makes for boring PvP, though - it wouldn't surprise me if that's one of the reasons PGI has kept flamers weak. I do like the idea of using them to ignite terrain, start fires for the smoke effects and to blind heat vision, turn a regular forest into a burning heat trap, etc. as it would add tactical elements to the game that just aren't there now.
