i think is no need create fingers, by 2 reasons
1) (technology) is much more simple to create hand-gun than create hand with fingers.
2) (we less uniqae) then we create fingers for using weapons we will be like other shooters

I think he's saying it's easier to make mechs with guns for hands than mechs with hands holding guns.

There are very few Battlemechs that actually carry guns in their hands. Most mechs with hands will still have their guns mounted to the forearm of the mech, and the hand is there to just be a hand.

They should model hands onto the mech, if only as a graphical thing, IMHO. At least until they decide how they're going to handle physical combat. Then roll out the Hatchetman. :)

Hands are good.

1. For scooping up supplies by hand.
2. Throwing stuff.
3. Punching out idiots.

Hey Thanks!

And I agree generally, hands, they way they are shown in Alexs Mech concepts are cool, very detailed, even without guns , I like that. Well, on the other hand, a Battlemaster with a gun in his fist would be cool though - its a lot of polygons and additional work, but we never had chance to see this in the quality MWO seems to reveal.

The gun holding was a legacy of swiping mechs from other sources. Not a fan of it either. Hands/manipulators, however, are quite useful things to have. I was never clear on how the heck they worked, but that's another kettle of fish.

I approve of hands and fingers on 'mechs

Because when I run out of ammo, I like to have the option to throw my weapon at my enemies
If necessary, I'll proceed to beat the living heck out of them afterwards

I don't like hands personally. They look too anime (an asian one) and stupid. Nothing against things like Hatchetman, or hands on Atlas, though.

I just like the idea of having options; I do not condone the concept of gauntlets on every mech
Some 'mechs have hands (Atlas) and some don't (Mad Cat/Timber Wolf), that's just how it is

That said, I don't like the idea of not having hands at all

You don't really need to. The comparison is erroneous.

That said MaSaD, hands in Mechwarrior are just for looks. They don't do much. The developers have already stated that the game will be pretty true to the original Mechwarrior games, which had no use for hands.

wow. I literally have no idea what to say about this post.
Other than can you please make sense?
I will say this, I am a big fan of Evangelion, though it has very little in common with Battletech.

As far as hands on a mech, absolutely; I cannot wait till we get to start to punch and grab our opponents and rip them up. Eventually. Hopefully.

I do believe the devs said somewhere that they want to implement physical combat eventually, but it's a complicated thing and will probably not be in at launch.

For that reason alone having hands on mechs makes alot of sense.

As to how they're supposed to work, regularly used gestures (close hand, open hand, flip the bird, etc) are supposed to be hard coded in so they work on a button press. For more detailed manipulation there's an optional waldo glove (or two) the pilot can put on to give him direct control of the mech's hands/arms.

With out hands how are they going to allow me to high five the other handed mech after a good shot. I know there was going to be a button for that, did you miss it in the FAQ? ;)

Hands were, for many reasons, often thought of as useful devices on battlemechs for a host of reasons. Physical combat, secondary non-combat duties, removing/moving debris and structures in urban combat. They could be useful. Now as a means for holding a primary combat system they were quickly ditched because it's never a good thing to drop your primary weapon in a firefight.

Now grabbing a light mech and dragging it through a building is a pretty good way to make a point. So is pushing him through a building and then collapsing it on him (ah Citytech).

Translation\\Interpretation results:
I believe MeSaD's trying to disparage us for liking "evangilion anime" [being weeaboos], and that having fingers would be cruel because it would turn MWO into other shooters, probably due to him thinking that having hands implies that they will be holding handheld weapons. Somehow. My logic processor is returning errors on that one.

Was that helpful (Y/N)?

Mechs aren't just used in combat. Just as a tank can have a bulldozer blade put on it and used to clear rubble, mechs are often used for non combat roles as well. Hands make a mech more versatile.

Mechs with hands can use steel girders like giant clubs. An Atlas with hands can do a 1 handed choke slam on medium mechs or swing them around like clubs which is stated in fluff.

For lights they can rain some punches if needed. But most of the time they will be give the bird when running around after tagging or narcing someone. That is what hands are for.

That's a bit of an exaggeration. A mech can lift 1/5th of it's mass per arm, twice that with Triple Strength Myomar. There are, of course, stories of 100 tonners with activated TSM using Locusts and Stingers as clubs, but that would be about it.

I considered trying it on the Tabletop once, it devolved into an argument about how the Locust would fight back (we decided the pilot would have to be unconscious for the Atlas to be able to try it) and if I did get a hold of it, if we'd resolve it as a club attack, a charge attack, or an unintentional ram. :o

Your description is in the same realm as the Heavy Gauss delivered Elemental stories. ;)
