They will certanly nerf Thunderbolts. Give them a few weeks.
I don't mind nerf cycles: they shift the meta, which is always fine and keeps the game fresh.

Weeks? I don't have weeks! I want them, nerfed into uselessness NAO!!!

I remember when thunderbolts were nerfed due to being able to actually use erppcs, the river of tears from clanners then the smug attitude at still having timbers and crows. Lets get one thing straight.. yea timbers and crows needed a nerf, no they are not now useless just no longer pure gods. Let the rivers flow again.

I most certainly am. So today I hunted and gave a taste of Hell to any mech tagged with a "(P)" using Hellbringers.

What consensus?

Has anyone had a chance to try any of these mechs out live? Considering how dominant they have been up to this point, and considering how trivial many of the nerfs are, it hardly seems like it's worth declaring some mythical "consensus" about the impact of the quirks on either their individual viability or Clan v IS CW balance.

Call it a vocal minority, if you prefer. The point of discussion isn't whether the criticism of the TBR+SCR nerf is valid or even whether it is as widely agreed upon as it may seem at a glance, judging by just a quick glance at the forum.

The point of discussion is what Inner Sphere mechs, if any, need to be nerfed to maintain balance between factions. So I implore you not to get stuck on that bit of the introduction.

I only shoot the enemy, unless of course it was some idiot who decided to enter my firing line. But that is not my problem.

But, I have to admit I've also been known to lob artillery and air strikes on idiots blocking choke points the team needs to go through. ;)

The trainwreck that is CW should be left out of balance discussion alltogether. It's a gamemode that an almost negligible part of the playerbase plays. It uses a second balance factor (weight) that is not used in any other gamemode. Due to the small amount of people actually playing CW frequently (especially compared to the normal queue), screwing with mech balance based on it doesn't make much sence.

Yet it has a dis-proportionally large say in mech balance, which in individual queue (what with mixed Clan, IS) should barely matter. Yeah, CW is a wreck. It has caused nothing but trouble, splitting the playerbase into inherently biased groups that PGI still listens to for mech balance. Were it not for the exclusiveness of only being able to pick IS or Clan mechs in CW, players would feel a lot more free to buy whatever mech they feel like instead of working toward 3 SCR for the CW deck or what-have-you. Then player input on mechs might be reasonable.

As it currently stands:
I'm a clanner, nerf all IS mechs please! (btw, I'm probably really biased)
I'm an IS pilot, nerf all clan mechs please! (btw, I'm probably really biased)

how many of us even play CW regularly? *looks at map* hahaha. Exactly.

I am in group 3.
I ignore cw and woulnt touch it with a 1000 meter pole. I like to play all mechs and can say, yes some are op and no some are not despite the 'quirkening'. Example : Timber and crow.. yea need nerf mostly due to broken hitboxes and feathering. God tier mechs that can certainly take a nerf bat and still be FINE. Stalker? you kidding me about the stalker right? Sure its large laser quirks are 'ok'. Realistically? those large lasers.. are not ERLL

I know I was in the minority, but I wanted mixed tech. I'm neither a clanner nor IS pilot, I have around 100 mechs of both factions and I love to use them all. Well, all except my locusts, I hate them.

Why do I have a clan badge? Because my clan mechs where newer when CW came out, so I wanted to use them first, and randomly hopping units is kind of frowned upon.

I'd rather use IS mechs in CW now because I am (and have been for a couple months) absolutely sick of my Timberwolves and Stormcrows.... But I can't go IS because I'll want to be back in Clan colors for my Wave 3 Pack.

Anyways, I get annoyed at the "Whining {faction}" comments, because for a great many of us the distinction is meaningless... And for basically everyone outside of CW.

WTF is this diatribe? The reason you don't see other mechs in clan dropdecks is because they blow.

Timberwolf, Stormcrow, Hellbringer. Dire Wolf doesn't count because it's too heavy, the clan lights suck so hard you are best avoiding them.

It's not just that the other mechs suck (and a lot of them suck pretty hard), it's also that there is a smaller pool of mechs to work with and the tonnage those mechs are at.

You can do 4x Mad Dog like me and be gimped, or you can pick 4 good mechs (mechs that have ferro AND endo) that can actually bring some decent weapons to the battle.

Um, I didn't talk about CW, though in CW, lots of concessions are made due to more important factors such as speed come to play... such as the Dire Wolf being only good for limited roles CW-wise, and also poor for its tonnage.

Then again, the crazy Dakka-Dragon that everyone sees is not exactly a great mech, but "good enough" for CW. It still has a major weakness when people are capable of nailing its weakness at a whim.

The thing about CW is that while it removes certain things from play, it also allows certain weaker-gimmickish builds (I'm aware of the incredible DPS on the Dakka-Dragon) that isn't actually a pro-comp option (which is generally why I don't bother with the Dragon myself).

This still has a lot to do with PGI's weak/poor balance on non-Stormcrow and Timberwolves, so it is what it is.

I am 100% sure the Thunderbolts will be nerfed next when PGI wants to sell more of the resistance mechs.

I personally see that no matter how much they change this or that balance will always be a issue cause ultimately it all has too boil down too the mech lab and while it is the greatest feature in the game it is also the cause behind the balance problems. Giving the player the option too do any thing with any mech despite what that mech may have been build for. Putting any size weapons in any size slots with out the need too think about energy output, Auto cannon sizes or racks for missiles, No draw backs or cons for any thing you do and taking engines and swapping them out at will. The idea was having a restrictive system that said alright look you have a med laser in that are you can field small energy weapons in that arm cause of the energy capacitor set too that level so ML , SPL,SM or MPL can be fitted. Same would apply too AC and missiles. While still giving people time too customize there mechs at will it would bring a great sense of variety as each chassis now would have its uses in different areas like in BT where each chassis had different roles too perform as in the reason for its construction. Having this total freedom we have now is the result for having meta , having the top tier and the lower tier. Only sane fix that I could come up with. MWLL does not even have a mech lab and its balanced cause it forces players too use 8 pre defined variants that are build for different roles.

I too have never understood why there were not more restrictions when building a mech.

Mandatory:
-Thunderbolts!!!
-Dragon 1N!!
-Grid Iron hunchback!!
-Banshee 3M and 3E!!

Possibly:
-Huggin
-Battlemaster 1G should have its 20% heat quirks toned down
-King Crabs should have their ridiculous torso twist rate toned down a bit

What do we IS players see all the time in CW? Stalkers and Thunderbolts and there is a reason behind this. The best stalker is getting nerfed but the thunderbolts are not if any IS mech needs toning down I'm afraid it's that one. Also Huginn is pretty ridiculous even if it pains me to say it. Love going after direwolves in that thing.

I'm sure there are others like Dragon 1N and the Grid Iron but they are not the worst offenders here. Some weapon cooldown increases might be in order.

I get it. The quirks look insane on paper. They do.

Stop. Just stop. You aren't even reading anything I've posted.

It's not about being on paper, it's about what I see happen in game, have seen happen across hundreds upon hundreds of games: any time I see a Grid Iron it can outperform any other gauss platform in the game right on up to the dual-gauss King Crab. It laughs at my Gausshawk like it's a complete joke, because the Grid Iron is complete easymode by comparison thanks only to its magic quirks.

F*** that.

It's not about nerfing one specific type of is chassis...nerf all of them by increasing the laser duration closer to clan levels. The is lasers is easily way op compared to clan mechs. I know this by using both a lot in this way. I cant stand the laser duration of a clan mech you mine as well just not play the game. the tbr prime cant field much more than energy it's an energy specific mech and that was it's strength.
