Wow, I can't believe how many people hate on the panther... I just bought the damned thing a week ago and got these results so far:
PANTHER PNT-9R 13 7 6 1.17 19 6 3.17 3,919 16,235 01:58:54
I'm not exactly a great player, but a mech with KDR over 3 during Basics is NOT a bad mech by any stretch of imagination.

And yeah, most of the weapons are on the arm. I've been driving Wolverines and Griffins for a while now, so I know how to twist. I've only lost the arm -once- and not died in the following 10 seconds.

Yeah,im starting to like my panther,it have ideal speed and some firepower,my best score was 190 points 1 kill and 7 assists but hey,im just starting. My next path was to master him, building the other 2 panthers, but the first one its gonna be the 9R,with 2 medium lasers and one srm 6 like this: http://mwo.smurfy-ne...b28c0fbac5adc5c

If i dont do better work than the 10K,my main mech gonna be the 10K when i elite him.

Are you you sure you need that good heat-efficiency? I'd drop a heat sink, and a ton of SRM ammo, and add two more ML. Then optionally strip just a bit of armour from least-critical sections (head and shield-side arm? and add ½ ton of SRM ammo.

I'm also getting started on the Panthers and having lots of fun. I play them exactly like my mediums though, and don't try to do what Locusts or Ravens do. Stick with the pack, provide long-range firepower (2xERLL, ER-PPC or LPL in the arm), with some SRMs for backup in case the arm goes. If I take some care to torso twist, I find them curiously tanky -- I've had quite many games where I'm alive with health at 30% range, which hasn't been all too common for me in other mechs.

If "slow lights" were/are so great, why didn't we see them sooner? Any mech can lower it's engine for the sake of carrying more weapons.

AC20 RVN-4X

Yeah not common these days (I'm probably the only one who still drives one regularly)... but they played the same role the adder and panther do.
