Problem for me is that I don't actually consider my Ice Ferret or Nova bad (and anyone who plays with me knows I'm actually comparing this directly to competitive SCR and TBR gameplay). From my play with them they legitimately seem like good mechs that other pilots simply don't appreciate. I had a guy from my old team actually rage quit for the night when he saw I picked an Ice Ferret - after which I proceeded to go even in damage with everyone in my drop group. So, from other people's point of view they are bad, but I've spent enough time to realize they are not just playable but actually strong (just look at the damn quirks, they're both basically unkillable).

The same is true of the Enforcer-4P. I have 5MPL on it and it pretty much murders everything because nobody can actually kill it with its combination of jump jets, hitboxes, and quirks.

I guess the "worst" mech I actually like is the Warhawk. If hitboxes weren't a factor in this game it would be my favorite mech because it has my ideal combination of armor, speed, and firepower. When I'm not try-harding with a Stalker or Dire Wolf it's definitely my go-to assault mech.

Urbanmechs and bad mechs should never be in the same sentence.

I don't think Lucas means that kind of bad. It's the 80's so bad carries a different meaning :).

Spider 5K, 4 machine guns and impossible to hit is often epic at the end of a match though I usually lose an arm...

Heavy Metal. I love my purple jumping rock music playing sniper shooting highlander. It also has a hula girl and disco ball, so yea, lots of fun.

Hell yeah. If you're going to run around in a hair metal hot pink spandex mech, go all in.

I might have to get me one :)

Also got to give a shout out to my old, much maligned, yet still loved, if seldom used, AWS-8Q.

The Model is ....just bad. Looks good, IMO, but there's only so much you can do with hitboxes when you are the proverbial barn door..... and have all low hardpoints.

That said, my "Templar" is one of those mechs I refuse to sell.
300 std
19 DHS
480 Armor.
2x PPC in the RT/LT
3x MLasers in RT/LT/H
2x LLaser in the RA

Only shows a 1.1 heat efficiency, but since I rarely am combining all the weapons at once, it really doesn't feel as hot. And it lays out respectable damage, as long as I don't manage to get focused.

I do wish they could make the poor thing a bit tougher, though.

My non ECM commando.... to light and to slow to be worth much of anything, no JJ's to boot, but hella fun if you want a real challenge....

Yea my one LRM 5 is OP.... add to that my one ML. sure i could go 2x SRM4 and try for some rear armor.....

ECM is however where the real fun begins..... i have managed to get into a stand of trees just out of IR and low light range 350 - 450 meters so players are reduced to finding the commando in the trees. i scored so many back shots the atlas thought he was being TKed and started unloading into a friendly who did nothing.....glorious....

It takes some real skill to get a kill in the 20 ton death trap....

But to get one via a team kill is god like....

Why is your non ECM Commado slow? The ECM one is the only Comando that SHOULD be slow. The rest should be going around 170 KPH. :)

Well its clearly a group drop only mech... but still good numbers.

Also whats your loadout Scarlett? 8 MLs or some kind of crazy mix?

Right now I'm head over heels for my Hooty Hoo, SHD-2D2. Tier 3 'Mech with it's best brawler build, but the jank I'm using makes it T4 or 5 probably.

(1) UAC5 (2) ML (2) LRM 5

I love it because it's fun to play on any map and any temperature, has a weapon for any range, 90kph with a STD engine, and 2 JJ for stunts. So many games I'm in the mix full-on having the fight of life... then game ends and I only did 187 damage with 0 kill steals.
It's just really fun to pilot IMO.

Standard engine... it drops the speed a bit but i'm out gunned by everything. even at max speed you cant run away.
i find my team mates don't guard the lights as much as the lights don't guard the assaults. add to that the lack of JJ and high speed trashes your leg armor.

With ECM i move very deliberately and flank. many times i have seen players just run buy me unnoticed. as long as i have the right camouflage. Spotting in a commando with narc is a lot of fun. the money is pitiful.....

Just 8 ERMLs. It's been about 50/50 group and solo. I'd say the first 50-60 or so were solo. The rest have been exclusively group drop where two more friends of mine are in Garbros.

Locust 1V for me.

In my opinion the single worst mech in the game, everything else you can make work somehow, but the 1V... even with those insane quirks... nope. Cannot carry hard enough to matter in that mech. Also, i will never forgive PGI for screwing that Phoenix locusts hardpoints over so bad... :P

If we're talking non-meta mechs...then it's the Cataphract for me. I still roll them and I still do reasonably well with them in PUGS and certain types of CW drops.

I run a pretty significant number of 'bad' mechs, mainly because I'm running them something close to stock builds.

I've got almost 150 drops in a TDR-5S(P) with LL, 3x ML, ALRM15. For a long time, it also had the SRM2 and MG's. (the weapon groups feel like playing the piano) I played my Thunderbolts a lot before quirks, when they really weren't very good at all.

I've got even more drops in a CPLT-C1 Cat, twin ALRM15 boat. It's my oldest 'mech, with highest amount of drops. It's not great, but I know it really well by now, and can perform well in it. I deliver most of the LRMs under 300 meters, direct fire.

Then there's the Griffin 3M I'm stubbornly trying to play with an ERPPC and LRMs.

I've done a lot of drops in Orions. My ON1-K with AC/20 and quad ML is actually one of my higher scoring 'mechs.

And my BLR-1G with 375XL and quad LPL is my single deadliest 'mech. I've gotten my top damage, top kill matches in that thing. It's the devil.

My AC/20 brawler Victor is my last, stubborn, gonna-play-it-close-to-canon 'mech that I keep running no matter how painful it is. It used to be good, because despite the drawbacks, it could handle well. Now the hover jets just make it an exercise in frustration to play.

I don't own anything Clan, and the handful of 'meta mechs' I have and have played (like triple UAC/5 Jagermechs) feel like easy-mode after all these 'mechs.

how did they screw the hardpoints over? It's a stock 1V?

Well, I DID buy an Adder before they were even released... Best luck I've had was an LBX20 and as many lasers as you can fit with 3 tons of ammo (If I remember correctly you can fit 3 on there if you strip most of the opposite arm's armor). I believe it's currently sitting with 4xASRM6, which works quite well.

I probably aim for more mid-range mechs rather than outright bad ones, I enjoy a challenge but I'm not masochistic enough to drive a stock Urbanmech or anything (not that anyone seriously tries to do that... though I'd like to see a stock urbanmech 12v12 match sometime). I think the "worst" mech I've actually enjoyed would be Hunchbacks, and those aren't particularly bad, there are just other, better things out there and no real reason to use them over the "better" ones.

point is it came with 2 MG and 1 Medium Laser. Any inflation is gravy over that.
