Have you tried using the repair tool instead of re-installing? Maybe for some reason, your computer is not installing something properly and the repair tool can see what files were affected because of it. Just a thought.

Tried repair tool first and reinstalling second, also repair tool after reinstalling.

I have also both downgraded and upgraded my display drivers and all relevant software, to no avail.

People have reported having the service "Easy anticheat" run on their machines since the patch, which might explan my problems at least. I don't think Easy anticheat will run easily on my installation, which is built on a pile of duct tape, thin straws and wishful thinking.

This does not explain why so many Windows users have had problems since the patch. The one thing me and Tornero have in common is an old quad core processor (he has core 2 quad, I have first gen i7), and there have been previous bugs with Easy anticheat related to processor instruction sets, namely:

Quote

It is caused by an instruction set (FMA3) which your CPU doesn't seem to have. msvcr120.dll tries to use it anyway (some bug causes it to think your CPU does support FMA3).

Which was patched for the game the site of which I quoted that from. No clue if MWO's implementation has similar issues, or if it is really MWO that launches that service for the people who have reported having it.

This would also explain why some people have had success by disabling or changing their antivirus, since many antivirus programs detect starting services like this as malicious activity.

So the repair tool doesn't say any mismatched files?

Correct. It doesn't detect anything strange about the installation.

What does your Omicron log file say in your MechWarrior Online log folder? Maybe copy paste it if you can't attach.

I attached it to the bug report email I sent to PGI, but here is the pastebin for it for forum detectives to rummage trough: http://pastebin.com/FK1jLm3F

Can't hurt to have more eyes on the case, though by now I am strongly suspecting it's the anticheat measures.

I noticed in your log, it said you were using an unsupported GPU configuration. Maybe try a default one?

I am using Geforce GTX 260M, which might get reported to MWO wrong too. It is a fairly old model, so it might just as well be genuinely too old to be properly supported. MWO has prompted me about unsupported 3d card ever since I first installed it, and that has not been a problem, at least until now.

Its not any sort of configuration its complaining about, its the underpowered card itself.

I have gone trough the files myself too, so I am aware of the obvious clues.

Excuse me if you already tried this, but please clean out or rename your user.cfg, the engine crashes directly after setting "r_MultiThreaded = 1" and "sys_physics_CPU = 3" from the file.

Did. It made no difference. :(

FWIW just tried MWO on my old Core 2 Quad with Intel G45 onboard gfx running Win 7 x64, got the "Unsupported graphics" warning, game is slow as snails even in Mechlab but works so far, go figure.

Can you dual-boot directly to Windows to check if Wine is somehow interfering? Since the May patches the Visual C++ 2010 Redist seems mandatory for MWO, maybe there's something going haywire with VC function emulation.

I don't own a copy of Windows, but if all else fails I could probably borrow a copy for a temporary test. Really not too keen on having to do that if anything else could possibly work.

Thanks for telling me about the MSVCR. It is possible that has something to do with this. There are several alternative overrides and installations of that I can tweak, though it still might not work. This certainly would not be the first time when the Visual C runtime causes trouble with a game.

By chance I just ran into this on OutreachHPG:
www.reddit.com /r/OutreachHPG/comments/345sai/mechwarrior_online_in_wine_with_the_wine_prefix/

Maybe you can make something out of it.

I probably have a setup similar to his: http://mwomercs.com/...h-wine-staging/
