So, I recently got back into MWO after a pretty hefty break and had a chance to try out some CW!

I was super stoked given what I remember the dev's talking about before I'd taken my hiatus so when i saw it was finally live I was pretty excited.

Loaded up the 'faction' tab and...none of it made sense. But hey, I hadn't been around for launch so maybe I missed an explanation/tutorial /shrug. So while I'm perusing the faction stuff I get a little notice for a defence of planet 'whatever', I click join/accept/whatever and go to the following screen.

I uh, well, the layout is terrible. It's remarkably confusing for the uninitiated (and yes, I know, that's not super important to those of you who are 1337 and all that) and through the process of clicking random buttons, I was able to finally setup my drop bay and choose defend.

The actual match was pretty awesome at the start; counter attack against clans (which I later found out to be a 12 man premade, against our IS pug, sigh). We horded our assaults and heavies at the gate and charged.

Our spawn was camped 5 minutes later.

So, in keeping with everything new in MWO I gave it a few more shots only to find that the defenses were the only things I had a shot at (haven't had a chance to farm the insane C-bill costs for clan mechs yet, so no clan fights for me, and probably more importantly, I'm an IS loyalist :)). Counter attacks went about the same, dropping against multiple premades or one giant one generally meant we were smashed back to our drop site before the 15 minute marker.

Maybe I'll give it more of a shot this weekend what with the bonuses and such but I'm pretty bummed overall. I was REALLY looking forward to CW.

You kind of have to get lucky and land a pug vs pug match up. That's where I've had the most fun, especially with VOIP flanking or pushing successfully is a blast

I've had the same experience as you against premades. It really sucks. First wave of attack fails and they push back to your spawn for your inevitable slaughter.

Dropped yesterday once. We pugs against a MS 12 man.

Was fun.

Not.

It was a slaughter. I nearly DCed after the first wave but the next 3 waves of us were wiped out so fast, I didnt have to DC.

They really should open the borders so all IS players and Clan players can fight in a match. And reduce the open planets for attacks significantly. Only like 1 planet per faction should be open.
This way the queue could get filled and people could find matches and the MM would not need to put PUGs into 12 man queues.

I don't understand why the matchmaking system allows for this sort of thing to happen in the first place - it's counterintuitive to the whole point of CW - fun.

/shrug/ Maybe I just need to find time with my current unit to drop in a group, but I've gotta say, facing a premade of 12 clanners isn't something I'd like to repeat, even WITH unit support.

Going to keep giving it a shot, because I love me some Mechwarrior and if it doesn't work out I guess I'll go back to non CW stuff.

PUG v PUG is far and away the most fun I've had in CW. Prebuilt vs PUG is almost always a joke and usually in Prebuilt vs Prebuilt, one will be stocked with better players or have been working together as a team longer, and after Wave 2, the match is already out of hand.

PUG vs PUG? Way fun.
