You see how you can troll that well?

ECM cover ALL the map: whenever frindly units stay inside the bubble, you can have LOS but you cannot lock.
Try harder

I did not realize ballistics, lasers, and SRMs needed locks.

You need it to know in which place the enemy is already damaged, and what loadout the enemy has. MWO 101.

BAP is one of my favorite pieces of gear, it helps me lock on and kill UAV's.

Or even just a tonnage cost proportional to it's effect. If ECM weighed even as much as an IS LRM 15 it would make people think about taking it since it would have a noticeable effect on weapon load outs.

How often does it need to be repeated that demanding 1-on-1 symmetric blance in an IP that is inherently asymmetric is nothing but a fool's errand?

Huh? This has nothing to do with symmetric balance. This isn't a Clan/IS balance issue, this is just a balance issue. ECM is absurdly overpowered for its cost on both sides.

When I do not know where the enemy is damaged, I aim for the head. Sniper 101, corollary 1.

Who cares? I was never afraid of them. I specialize in hunting down ECM carriers.

Yes it does. You wanted ECM to weigh as much as the LRM15 it nullifies. What surprised me is that you did not go for the gold and demanded that it weighed just as much as an LRM20.

That was just an example and I could have just said 7 tons, but I wouldn't mind it weighing as much as an LRM 20 either. At it's current power level it's probably worth 5-10 tons. At 5 tons you would probably still have a few people carrying them in a 12 man. At 10 you would probably only have a single dedicated ECM carrier in a company and it would need to be protected. Anyways, it still isn't an IS vs. Clan issue.

Then my apologizes for misunderstanding you. Usually that's what people mean when they are talking about asymmetrical balance. It also means that your post responding to me about weight increase makes no sense in the context of the discussion.

That doesn't sound like an issue of asymmetric balance then, which is a stupid concept anyways.

Few take LRM's into CW, at least at this time, but you do see them there. So I'm assuming most of the concern is in the solo queue. What do I see time after time? Teams getting ripped apart by LRM's. I have a feeling most here complaining about ECM have the agenda of making LRM's even easier to use.

Teams getting ripped apart by LRMs? Maybe in the trash Elo. All I am seeing in solo-q are lazors and Gauss and 228/HHoD/SRoT guys who should stick to the tryhard mode.

It'd be very useful, and slightly terrifying. And it would still technically be unbalanced (though not to ECM's extent) because with ammo requirements, it's an ammunition-dependent weapon countering another ammo-dependent weapon. If you switch it to infinite, I'd have a reason to actually use AMS range and AMS overload on, say, the Jester with 2xAMS. I could probably swat out LRM15s with that firepower.

And Kit Fox-C arm says hello.

so what? right now you can pick ams 0.5 ton and 0.5 ton of ammo which is probably enough for you for most of the matches
they can make a 1 ton laser ams for basically the same effect

Info is life.

If I see an enemy mech under ecm at 800m, I can see the chassis, but I cannot know what it is bringing at the table.

This is why I have been brushing on my observation skills.
Even without target info trying to spot things like missing parts like side torsos, limping mechs, smoking parts...
Smoking parts usually mean un-armoured parts even without target info that is best guess of a weak component to shoot.

And where are they/we supposed to play?
May I ask Your Majesty humbly if Your Majesty allows Your humble minions that so happen to be better at playing internet space robots to take said robots on a ride once in a while?
Your humble minions are gratefully accepting Your Scrubbiness to arrange a schedule so that Your Badness does not have to be confronted with space robots piloted by minions that don't use a steering wheel as a primary tool to move their internet space robots.
Sadly, Your Unskilledness has to get into diplomatic relations with all the other Majesties that demand no teams to play in a strength of more than 3 minions at a time, and only when they are not taking their robots on a ride into the Scrubwoods.

not having a lock/target info isn't that big a deal, if its smoking shoot it, if not your default choice for a particular chassis is normally the right one e.g. right torso atlas, legs for lights or whatever has the biggest weapon on it.

If your not good at quickly analyzing either targeting info readouts (since they don't tell you where on a mech gear is located) or the mech itself via visual inspection center torso is usually the right place to shoot since that's what everyone else will be.

If your using lrms, learn to accept the fact you need to use tag which, yes, does mean you have to be visible to the guy your shooting. having LRM's doesn't automatically mean you get to hide out of sight for the entire match, presenting another target for the opposing team to shoot at helps take the pressure off the rest of the team.
