How can I get the "Hearing Impaired" title? I'm actually thoroughly hearing impaired, so much so that I can't hear or understand any voice chat that goes on in-game, so I pretty much start most games with "Hey, I'm hearing impaired and can't hear voice chat. Mind filling me in if something important is mentioned?" Obviously, this gets old after a few games, and I feel like the title might be useful to that effect.

Thanks in advance for anyone who knows!

Edit: I messaged Tina Benoit and she gave me the title! Thanks for all the good advice and help in the thread, guys.

Interesting; I would imagine you could get it through contacting a PGI moderator (not the volunteer ones). Most likely Tina Benoit through a message or twitter? Tina Benoit is the current community manager. I'm not sure how frequent her face-time on the threads is, however.

Could someone else provide those links if they are known?

Also welcome to MWO and good to see your first post on the forums. ^_^

Also support@mwomercs.com is an idea.

"Welcoming Committee" is one such moderator appointed title, awarded to those who have helped an insurmountable number of new players for an undisclosed amount of time.

Thanks for the warm welcome and the info! Glad to be here, honestly. Was a MW3 fan my entire childhood.

Could I do it through one of the links on the "Support" page listed on the top toolbar, perhaps?
That option aside, hopefully someone mentions where else I can contact a PGI mod. It'd be nice to have the title. :)

Edit: Thanks for the links! I'll go ahead and send a message to the support@mwomercs.com, as well as Tina Benoit. I really appreciate the help :D

at first i thought it was gonna be about people not listening..But it is an interesting topic. In stead of a title, why not a No sound icon when you are at start up. In stead of a speaker working, it could be something else very noticeable. maybe a big circle with a slash through it and a speaker?

Yeah, it's an interesting issue in games in general, especially with the recent trend of voice chat playing a large role in multiplayer games (Helldivers, Warframe, etc.). However, the usual sentiment I get is "Wtf, why are you playing a multiplayer game when you can't communicate or help the team? You're just dragging them down."

I guess it would help if there were more young, hearing-impaired gamers (note: not saying I want more young and deaf people; it sucks, would never wish that on someone). As it stands, most hearing-impaired individuals are older and less inclined to play video games. It's certainly not as large a problem as colorblindness, for example, and I hope it never becomes that large a problem. Just wish there were more options out there.

Maybe I'll just make my own clan group, have our callsign/tag be "DEAF." That might get the point across. XD

Don't let anyone tell you not to play an MP game.. the only people dragging people down are bad players. Just being observant makes all the difference in the world.. when some one says.. Target Delta.. you don't need to hear that, You can just look for a mech with a solid triangle that everyone is shooting at..

Another thing, use the grid squares, typing things like b4, or 2 in b4, dire b4.. ext... do it while you are back in covering cooling after a volley. You can easily do that in that amount of time.

besides if you play in pugs, half the time people don't bother to talk anyway, or even respond to grid commands. good groups do, but still.. often i've been the only one that said a word, (before my mic stopped working) So really man, just play and have fun.. a simple way around it.. just say

Sorry guys sound not working... and leave it at that. simple, easy, effective. :)

It pays to be observant, and I do my absolute best to do so, but that only takes you as far as your teammates let you know. I'm sure there's lots of times wherein someone has said something like "dire in d7" or "light mech flanking us" in voice chat and I've not even heard it and then proceeded to get cored as a result.

And then there's CW, which is loads of fun, but absolutely insane if you can't hear anything. I've played a few of those matches where I'm the only one in the chatbox during the game, but I'll constantly see voice chat notifications pop up at the bottom regardless of whether or not I've mentioned my impairment.

Thanks for the support, though. I appreciate the kind words, and I'm sure that I'll make use of the advice that you've given. :)

i can see how missing some voice can be a hindrance, But there is a module that could help you out. It is called Seismic sensor. Basically you unlock it with GXP, and install it in a mech module slot. the module will blip on your radar up to a range of 250m? i think less for the first unlock though. As long as your not moving you will get sensor data from enemy mechs walking in that range.

It's actually quite helpful for anyone, but for you it could really be worth it as it may be your only warning. ya stop walking right before a corner, and check to see if anyone is close by.

it costs 6m, so it is pricey, and a lot people use then on many mechs. It is considered one of the better modules too. It is expensive GXP wise as well. i forget exactly but 10k 15k? per unlocks? it takes a ton so make sure you are not using that GXP to unlock mech unlocks, save it for pilot modules.

They also have sales on XP to GXP conversions with MC, but even the normal price isn't to bad to speed it along a little. Spend 7 bucks, and convert a few hundred MC worth of XP if you have a ton banked from a mastered mech. I've done it a few times in the past to speed things along for a module i wanted. But then again these days with all the weapon modules around, and consumable upgrades it can be helpful for those that don't mind taking a GXP short cut.

So take advantage of that conversion sale if ya get a chance. :)

Sweet! I'll be sure to grab that one; was already building towards the magnification module/skill as it is, so it's nice to have a plan.

yep those conversion XP to GXP is nice also when you bought a chasis for elite, and you dont wanna play it at all. 21500 xp, which is currently 860 MC, and you have elited a mech, the minute you bought it for CBills.

The 4x zoom is handy for extreme range play, like Gauss, ERLL, PPCs etc. Lots of folks like it on a Raven 3L or some other sniper platform that doesn't like getting too close. Does more harm than good up close!

Radar Deprivation and Seismic Sensors are the ones I always try to save up for.
