I hate when people say "X Mech is crap" or "X Mech isn't usable unless they quirk it more" or anything along those lines.

I want to hear your best Victor 9K builds. No crap about it being an unusable mech. Every mech someone's said that about I've found great builds for. (Myst Lynx, Warhawk, Quickdraw, Cicada, etc)

My first idea:
http://mwo.smurfy-ne...28bc1d191d748ef
It's designed around Mobility, which was a pretty key part of this mech. Not as much as the Quickdraw, but I figured I'd do well to try. Near max-sized engine.

My second idea:
http://mwo.smurfy-ne...df904e1e0777e9f
I forgot JumpJets on the first one, so I decided to go full meta: ERPPC and Guass. Poptarting is dead?
Get wrecked.

My third idea:
http://mwo.smurfy-ne...af7f206d4686c12
Jump jets + no poptarting? Insane, perhaps. On paper, an excellent build. When I ran the public test, however...eh. Needs more testing.

Gauss + 3 ER LL:s + 3-5 jump jets is a good corner poker,be careful with those side torsos tho.

What Cookiemonter said. If you want your 9K to shine, keep it off the front line. The 9B will always outshine the 9K in close ranges. The 9K works well as a heavy skirmisher/sniper, especially now that the current meta favors ERLLs.

I'm running something like this:

Just thought I'd chime in because I am also a closet case VTR-9K fan. I have the 9S and the Dragon Slayer and they were both dominant back in the day. During that era, I tried the 9K with guass, ac10, lbx10 builds. In the end, it could never ever outdamage the 9S with a similar play style. The unique thing about this chassis is that it can carry 6 jj's, but then you lose a missile hardpoint and the ability to carry an AC20. Gaining 2 extra jj's can't possibly make up for losing a ballistic AND a missile hardpoint over the 9S.

So I just began using it as a troll brawler. 6 JJs, fast engine, lbx10, 3mlas and srm4 or even 2 streak srms. It was fun, it was a challenge but it was never going to be competitive.

It today's meta, I think you're just going to have to take advantage of the lack of Ghost heat on the 3LLAS or 3ERLLAS and milk this chassis as a long rate sniper/poker.

I'm hopeful for a day when JJ's are given a bit more power. We'll see if it can bring back the VTRs and Highlanders.

Nope Victor is a crap mech right now, but that is compared to it's piers.

I made a thread comparing a Victor to a HBK. if the HBK and Victor move at the same speed, and both use a STD engine, the Victor gets:
50 more HP in the CT
1.5 tons of pod space.

Thats it. The HBK ST buffs make Victor and HBK ST health differ by 8. HBK has weapon quirks, is far more agile, a much smaller target and doesnt get the movment (hill climb) penalty a Victor gets. Now, if we run an XL in a Victor, and a STD in a HBK, the podspace differance goes up. But then, the Victor gets to be a huge target with paper ST and an XL engine.

When you can compare a 50 ton medium and an 80 ton assault, and the difference comes down to 50 CT health,(and thats ignoring all the agility and movement that favor the HBK) something is wrong.

Not to discourage you from "making it work" but the Victor has been sitting in time out so long the new kids are all surpassing it.

I did something a little unorthodox with my 9K while mastering it. It was my least favorite out of the 9B and 9S, so I made it into a Thor! Yep, that right a Thor. The Thor was my favorite mech from lore so I put an LBX10, and ERPPC, and an LRM15 on that sucker and ran it around. I had a few varying builds. But this was what I used after I mastered the chassis: Thor Mastered
This is what I used when I was leveling it: Thor Leveling and Thor Alternate.

Not the best 9K builds, but I had a lot of fun playing them on a chassis I had a harder time with. If I were leveling it now I'd probably do this: 9K Now. Probably crazy to do this with an XL considering after 30 guass shots I will be brawling.

Wrinkle that's pretty close to what I run/ran on my 9K. I went a little more brawl-y with SRMs instead of the LRMs. Looked something like this.

I run mine a bit unorthodox....http://mwo.smurfy-ne...c78a5d41143b71c
As a DPS Knife Fighter.
STD Engine, gets you moving at 68kph, plenty fast.
AC10 w/ Maxed Cooldown Module
3 MPLs
x2 SRM 6
1 maneuvering jump jet.

Doesn't have a long range option aside from the AC, but it does good work.

Tonight I killed a Dragon slayer, in two shots, in about 6 seconds. With a freegin Trebuchet. Shooting out the XL engine in a Victor is cadet bonus level difficulty.

I've got nearly 500 matches in Victors since they were released. I can tell you the number of times I've been killed in two shots with an XL Victor can probably be counted on one hand...and most of those was when some light snuck behind me and drilled my rear armour.
