However if im running an assault mech loaded with AC20s or equivalent I always group in some SRMs to add to the critical chances once I shear off the armour.

LRMs can fire at max range(longest range weapons in the game), have lock on ability, and can fire over terrain via ally line of sight.
SRMs are short range, have no lock on(Unless it's the "Streak" type), but do more damage on a ton per missile damage ratio. From a math point of view SRMs are better but they require you to shoot at point blank range and have no lock on.(Again, unless they're Streak) Streak SRM isn't as good as regular SRM(ton to missile damage ratio) but should always hit.(You paid extra weight for that lockon)

If the red bar beside the weapon name also shows how fast the weapon can be fired again, it means that LRMs can really be spammed hard (you can check in the heavy mech video). Can't wait to try out an Atlas with LRM ammo through the roof and explode in a blaze of glory when I get critted.

No minimum range either.
The LRM's doesn't look good when used against fast targets at long range.
I prefer direct fire weapons for long range firepower.

And... LRMs will simply fail to explode at short ranges. Plink plink.
After seeing some of the in game footage i'd swap the Atlas LRM20 for some SRMs to spice up the short range Alpha. MRMs woudl be nice but if they go by the timeline they won't be around for forever.

Ok first of all note that they are planning to have the Artemis IV system ready for the game launch. Be aware too that TAG/NARC are supposed to be extremely helpful in making sure those LRMs actually hit the target. Those two things together should make LRMs devastating.
I think it's important to be able to reach out and bombard someone so I'm going with LRM all the way (actually plan to ditch the SRM launcher on my Atlas).
SSRMs sacrifice a lot of damage as we won't be getting the SSRM 4 or 6 (only the 2) for launch. Also I have to point out that the dumbfire missiles seem to hit quite well.
The Arrow IV is not being implemented for launch.... MAYBE later.

Over there? LRM.
Right here? SRM.
Personally I'm considering fitting my Cat with one of each but I have no way of knowing right now if it'll be worth splitting the damage potential of the LRMs in order to have a harder close range punch for when I inevitably get mech-rushed.
