Dire wolves are only dangerous at the front end.
Their sides and back are weak due to lack of speed and torso twist so they are vulnerable to faster units close in.

If a faster unit circle strafes you and the situation allows, walk backwards and serpentine while twisting your torso in the opposite direction. You can turn faster in reverse and even faster if done at less than full throttle.

The direwolf work best in a team. And if you cant get a whole team one or two moar direwolves will suffice, Three direwolfs working side by side can work wonders.

Direwolves make great chokepoint fillers.

Also I use advanced seismic sensor, so I can prepare the red carpet for those who come around corners.

Stay in the middle of the team. If you snipe from the back and the team moves you will be left behind with no support.

At the beginning of a game don't delay and start moving towards your team mates right away, especially on bigger maps, otherwise you will miss the fight (You get no action or your team dies) or some light(s) will hit you from behind.

Just wanted to sort of close this thread that I started and thank those who responded. Although it's been the most painful of any mech I've mastered, I'm starting to see some pretty high DMG scores when played right with good builds, whether DPS or Sniper/Alpha centric builds.

But I learned a completely new play style, or more importantly, I learned a whole new set weaknesses to be aware of in the game of MWO. I happened across the following thread and I think that 'patience' in particular was the tipping point for piloting this mech. (That and getting that last Module spot unlocked so I could mount Advanced Seismic sensor and stop rounding the corner only to eat 12 alphas)

Just thought I'd share this useful thread which helped me stop sucking with my DWF.
