FOV slider is a great addition. I like it a lot, adds to the feel of piloting a mech. Being IN the mech.

But it does more.......

At 120 FOV, the fish-eye effect is such that you non drinkers, may experience what it is like to pilot a mech after 9 - 12 beers. Fair dinkum, to me it is like the end of many nights, just before I call it and pass out.

Now everyone may experience pissed-piloting. :D

Holy crap, this is like "how not to implement FOV 101" bad. I also love how using zoom switches back to 60

3rd person? FOV slider? whats next , god mode? there are supposed to be blind spots, and obstructions when your looking out of a mech cockpit, and how bad they are depend on the mech.
Every time you turn around this game takes another step close to being a COD knockoff.

Fellas, I did not start this thread to ***** about the game.

I did it as a fun observation, and I quite like FOV at 80.

I feels more like I am in the mech.

Do it drunk and at 120. It's like blackout drunk without the feeling you should climb onto the bed the next time it comes around.

Protip broski: higher FOV actually fills your view with more cockpit, making it a disadvantage in many cases.

I don't even. Have you even tried it yet? It's more of a CoD FPS for NOT having greater visibility! You're in a giant walking machine that by all means should at least have a rear view camera. According to lore you're supposed to have a 360 degree view anyway...

No this is the same as people wanted the choice and now they have it. Like choosing to put lrms on a Hellbringer Twolf or Atlas.

If you dont like it, you are free to choose.

I've been upping mine to 87 via .cfg for years, so I am very happy this is finally in. To me, default FOV in this game is 'window licking' close. Nice option to have. Also, while higher FOV in some mechs means more cockpit, try an FOV of 85-90 in a King Crab, Griffin or Centurion, it's wonderful.

Actually....there aren't. Mechs are technically supposed to have a 360 degree field of view and all sorts of sensors/radar/etc for seeing pretty much everything on the battlefield. Also we have been able to adjust the FOV in game for at least 2 years or so, just had to do it in a config file instead of the options window.

Those obstructions and blind spots are still there when you change the field of view anyway so not much of an argument there, and being able to set the FOV higher gives you a chance to get it somewhat close to human field of view anyway.

I was wondering what that was, but I think it would be too fish-eyed. If I remember correctly it was near 120 degrees. If, that is. I should look it up.......

EDIT: If the analogy of the eye’s retina working as a sensor is drawn upon, the corresponding concept in human (and much of animal vision) is the visual field.[3] It is defined as “the number of degrees of visual angle during stable fixation of the eyes”.[4] Note that eye movements are excluded in the definition. Different animals have different visual fields, depending, among others, on the placement of the eyes. Humans have an almost 180-degree forward-facing horizontal diameter of their visual field, while some birds have a complete or nearly complete 360-degree visual field. The vertical range of the visual field in humans is typically around 135 degrees.

Interesting, considering the effect of 120 FOV.

Without fov youll never know about those blind spot. Ive been playing my Hellslinger all night and the 2 ppc canon on the right shoulders goes beyond the cockpit and you can see them with a bigger fov and it's awesome.

OH THE IRONY.

CoD on PC, largely being a console port, is locked to a 60 degree field of view. Mechwarrior Online, being a PC game, shouldn't be restricted to such a low FoV because it is designed to be viewed on a computer monitor and not on a TV at a distance. Having the ability to change the FoV actually makes MWO LESS like most Call of Duty games.

And another thing, what's with all the hate for Call of Duty anyway? If you don't like a game, don't play it. Geez. I used to play a lot of CoD, but I haven't been able to get into the more recent titles because they have changed too much from the ones I used to really like (yeah, that's right. I just said the CoD franchise changed too much. Wanna fight about it?). When someone starts spewing CoD this, and CoD that when they are trying to make a point, they just show how much a victim of group think they are. I'll bet you've never even played a Call of Duty game, because you clearly have no idea what you're talking about.

I'm sorry if I seem salty about this, but enough is enough. I can like Call of Duty and Mechwarrior for different reasons, and that doesn't make me less of a human. So stop using a popular game franchise to push points that are neither well researched, nor grounded in reality. Thank you.

EDIT: Several minutes later and now I feel like a jerk. Don't take it too personally, you just hit a nerve.
