Bad decision.

The Field of View gives a tactical advantage in battle at the sacrifice of the looks and immersion of the game.

A little experimenting finds that an enemy mech that is out of sight to your side becomes visible as you increase the field of view. This an advantage (on wide FoV) that will be hard not to accept in a competitive environment. Yet the game image looks increasingly hideous and "fishbowled".

Beginning players are unlikely touch the FoV setting, using the default 60 deg. Highly competitive players, willing to sacrifice the games appearance to gain an advantage, will set it as wide as they can tolerate. This will widen the gap between differing skill levels.

Please revert to the original 60 deg FoV and remove the slider.

I disagree. I have two monitors: 1280x1024 and 1920x1200. The second one had advantage (I could not see left and right as well as on 1920x1200).
The field of view can be limited to a certain lower value, maybe.

It all depends on the mech cockpit layout. If the glass wraps around the sides its ok if not its terrible. An option to save this setting on a mech by mech basis would be real handy.

You do realize that any competitive players already had this setting in their user.cfg for ages now right? this just gives access to a hidden option to everyone instead, seems much fairer.

I'm not sacrificing anything in the way of looks and immersion, quite the opposite.
Without my 105 FoV on my 3440x1440 ultrawide monitor the game would look seriously bad and be much less than optimal for that monitor. I appreciate that they finally brought this basic feature into the UI so I can adjust it easily depending on mech.

Just by running the game in 5760 X 1080 at 60 fov gives a huge fov, and yes it has helped. But this silder is much easier way to tweek settings that some players like to change. So its nothing new, just making things easier for some.
