Has anyone had any luck with this thing?

This is what I'm using now, and its surprisingly fun.
PNT-10P

Other than this though, I have no clue what the **** to do with it.

I tried one AC2, but it is just too weak.
Stupid lack of light balistic options.

A SRM + MG based build is like a weak unquirked Huggin, no point in that.

Would rather it could run the big engine to be the unique fast Panther, but just cant fit anything if you do that.

Did a couple of games, think that is where I will leave it unless it gets some quirks to make it work with lighter weapons.

Try this.

Yes, the AC2 is weak, but with the Panther you should already be used to harassing and playing the long game. Plink, plink, plink, hide, reposition, plink some more. When lights come calling, give them streaks. I use them on my 10K (along with ERPPC & ML) and I've seen off or killed quite a few foolish lights with them.

Also, why do people keep using leg jets? If you get legged, you can't even jump and shoot, you just die there like a fool. With them in the torso, there's a chance the engine won't be critted and the jets go instead when your ST is open.

Jets in your torso will propel you forward a little while jets in the legs will only lift you straight up without any forward movement. This makes them more effective for poptarting.

In addition, engines cannot be critted so there is no sense in "crit shielding" the engine by loading up the torsos with JJs. Engines can only be destroyed if the component in which they reside is fully destroyed.

Hah, ok, learn something new every day.

Though I could swear that I only get lifted up when stationary and firing up the jump jets...

When I saw the quirks of the 10P and its minimal harpoint loadout, I thought 'oh god. This will be a pain to master!'

So I had 2 possible loadouts for the 10P. The dual AC/2 and the dual SRM4 one. After fighting a dual AC/2 Panther with my Enforcer I decided it's the dual SRM4 one. This is my current PNT-10P build.

But after my first drops I must say it's awesome. I have fun with it!

OK the damage output is lousy but that thing is hard to kill! Especially when torso twisting. After 5 matches I died only twice (pugging in lights!) and had an average of 243 damage per match with only 2 SRM4s.

It kinda reminds me of the Spider: Low damage, high survivability. Fun to ride.

P.S.: Is it just me or are the Panther JJs the worst of all non-Assault mechs?

Brawler -

Xl170, 2 jumpjets. LB10-X (3 tons of ammo), x2 srm2's (1 ton of ammo)

XL170, 2 jumpjets, x2 AC2's and rest in ammo. Stagger fire the Ac2's to turn it into a buzzsaw.

Xl170, 2 jumpjets, UAC5, x2 SRM4's

XL170, 2 jumpjets, Ac2, Mg, x2 LRM5's. - Scored 670+ yesterday with it. Mean suppression mech.

I haven't gotten around to rolling a gauss yet....

Mmmm...gauss.

i'll be back later.

Edit. Gauss panther very do-able. But limited to 30 shots with only 2 jumpers and a XL145 engine. Not bad but not super great either. That 25% ballistic cooldown hurts you considering your limited ammo

Maybe with a UAC5?

Or... some zombie fun?

Huginn's tankier, less punchy brother?

No chassis has yet so capably illustrated the need for intermediate-weight ballistic options like HMG, MGA, and LAC. So much win with the Panther's hitboxes and that big engine, but apart from SRM builds there's just not any way to make use of it all. Either you opt for a real gun on the arm and run slower than a normal PNT, or you run fast and have crap for firepower. This is definitely going to be a challenge mode 'Mech without better quirks.

same engine, AC2 (2 tons ammo) 2 SRM4 (2 tons ammo)

A freind of mine is doing a Gauss build to good effect aswell. I would too but I have ravens for that.

MWO:Mechlab - PNT-10P Backhand

Having incredible amounts of fun and success in this. I've even prompted a 5LL Stalker to question what he was seeing- probably because he was focusing too much on me as I ran up and down slope to spread damage while other teammates of mine were also shooting him.

Regularly scoring 1-4 kills per match with this thing. If you're good enough at working terrain and changing direction constantly, you can easily run a light-class at less than 100 kph.

Lack of jump jets hurts a little, but I'd rather keep the ammo/speed at this point, especially since cutting the engine size means having to either shift to single heat sinks or find some other way to save crit slots.

Edit: To answer the title question, the PTR-10P is wheeeeeeeeeee!

At this stage I'm just going to settle for stock, works well as unobtrusive plinker. Possibly early days, but no other build really feels any more suitable or effective.

What about dropping a bit of armor off the head and LA for an upgrade to XL195, and moving the second ton of SRM ammo and a heat sink to the RT, which you'd be protecting anyway because it's the gun side? Looks like this.

You could also drop the second ton of SRM ammo and swap for an AC10. Still runs cool, but gains pinpoint damage at range.

Actually, that second one looks pretty good; I think I'm gonna try that on mine and see what shakes out.

Friend of mine mentioned it to me recently. I never put JJs in the legs (save them for ammo), so I hadn't noticed the difference. I tested it and found that he was correct.

Edit: That was a month or two back that he mentioned it to me. Since then, I've been putting JJs in the torsos like normal because I want my legs for ammo storage, so it is possible that it's changed and I'm simply not aware of the change.
