TLDR version: Good hitboxes, plenty agile, GREAT podspace. Lots of fun to play as I built mine. Match starts at 3:42.

I am afraid PGI will hit it with with the same TBR nerfs that made my mixed TBR builds worthless though since it can carry the exact same layouts as the TBR "meta". :-/ #unintendedcasualties

Too bad that its arms look like blocks without any ballistics....

Yeah, not the best look, but my mixed build's aesthetics thankfully turn out ok.

Yep, although the EBJ is not as tough as the Mad Cat, but they quirk-ruined the Stormcrow too once it went on sale for CBills. Clan Energy is nerfed anyway with the heat being higher than Battle Tech and the DHS being 1.4's. It's a nice little mech though, looks good, high mounted weapons, only drawback is it can't look down with it's torso.

Except our DHS are actually significantly stronger. (They don't drop in efficiency below 2.0 until you have over 20 of them in the mech). DHS+increased scaling heat cap+mech skills+elites+engine DHS are 2.0 bas = 2.3+ DHS. Most our mechs cool at a terrifying rate compared to BT mechs.

Well, it has less armor, not as good hitboxes, and no JJs, so it might not be hit by those nerfs.

It will be good until the IS scrubs get to QQ Clan OP and it gets TBR treatment....cuz it will. Esp, if it actually is TBR/SCR lvls of good. Which isnt bad, seeing as most Clan mechs are.....idk...meh?

Well of course that's what is going to happen. It has about the same, a little more, tonnage than the Timberwolf. You can cram 3 of them into your drop deck.

The reason the Direwhale doesn't get as much flak as say the Stormcrow. Is that you can't bring more than one, without gimping yourself in the rest of the drop deck, plus it his hindered by it's mobility. But if this thing is as potent as it seems on paper. Then you can bet there will be an influx of QQ nerf threads. Especially if Clan units start dropping in mostly this mech.

They don't always respond to QQ. But if they see over-representation+QQ. Then they will nerf it. Even if it takes months as it did with the Timberwolf and Stormcrow.

My .02 on the balance thing. Unlock endo and FF for all clan mechs to bring the underperformers up to par. Make IS XLs the same as Clan XLs and then up the armor value again to lower TTK.

Equal XLs would solve a LOT of problems.

But PGI did the nerfs without realizing how much the IS has improved through quirks. I honestly like my ZEU more then any of my CLan mechs, aside from the 4x LPL WHK and even then, I like it more cuz the ZEU has better hit boxes, better ROF, better armor, akin to that of a fully loaded DWF....and it moves nice as well.

So, If the EBJ is a good one, let it be.

Good is one thing. But if it's so strong that people replace their Drop decks with this mech. You bet there will be nerfs. You can't build a deck of only Zeus. You can take 2. And then divide 40 tons. But with the Ebon Jaguar you could take 3. You've got something with the potential firepower of a Timberwolf. But you can take 3. And your choice of anything up to 45t.

Just after a few seconds of messing with the mechlab. I can see builds of 55 points of damage. In a 65 ton mech package.

They won't nerf it right away. Because then people would demand refunds. And that's unfortunate for everyone else.

If you're talking about making an IS mech NOT die when it loses an XL side torso, then you are invalidating the entire STD engine line.

It needs to happen for balance reasons. And SOME mechs would still roll STD.

No, it doesn't. It really doesn't need to happen. This is coming from an IS lifer.

Would it be nice? Yes. It's not what we need though.

Also, NO ONE would run STD engines if they can run C-XLs in their IS mechs. Why would I bother? Because that ONE centurion build could use the STD engine? So what? 99% of all IS builds die anyways once you lose both STs. The only mechs left with STD engines will be ones with AC 20s in their STs. That's it.

We can take 3x TDRs, they only got nerfed cuz they were crazy.
