I´m as pissed as the next man about PGI not being able to give the Expanded Mechlab view to everyone (that´s the "Smurfy Mechlab" we were expecting), but instead of bashing them for it I´m looking for solutions, because it might take a while for them to fix it (if they ever do it).
So... my hardware is perfectly capable of doing 1600x900, I know it because I do it in other games. The two things that seem to have a problem with it are:
(1) Windows 7
(2) MechWarrior Online
By "having a problem with it" I mean that the "1600x900" option doesn´t show up. If I go "Screen Resolution" in windows or in game the option is not there.
My question is: is there a way to "fool" the game into showing and using that definition (some config file) or even windows (which then might pass it into the game?). Even if it´s not the recommended definition for a particular monitor. I´m looking for ideas here, surely it can be done...
PS: Sorry for the slightly missleading title. I don´t have a workaround (yet). I´m looking for one.

Usually depends on the graphics card and it's driver. If I recall correctly, I could create custom resolutions with my old Radeon card which I could then select in windows. I've never bothered looking messing with the settings on my new card though.

Here's my specs if it helps. I don't have a top shelf monitor or GPU (anymore). I have no issues with the new UI.
Monitor 1
Name Acer H233H on NVIDIA GeForce GTX 660
Current Resolution 1920x1080 pixels
Work Resolution 1920x1040 pixels
State Enabled
Multiple displays Extended, Primary, Enabled
Monitor Width 1920
Monitor Height 1080
Monitor BPP 32 bits per pixel
Monitor Frequency 60 Hz

I did find an Option in the Catalyst Control Center to have HDTV modes to show up in windows' options (1920x1080), I can then use these modes for windows, but they still don´t show up in the in game video options. What´s up with that?

No idea. Probably a config file that needs to be edited for mwo.

r_Width = 1600 r_Height = 900should do it. Or not.
Case sensitive, natch.

if your screen doesn't support the resolution, you have no chance, simple as that.
There are some notebook displays that led you choose a bigger res than the display has as native and those let you scroll when you go to the edge. very hard to use and far away from something i'd call workaround.

And how you determine that? In my case, the option does not show up in MWO and Windows, but it does show in other games (namely Planetside 2) and works perfectly.
