Because they "love the franchise" or something. Its a bizarre excuse.

FYI: for all the tinfoil hats around here - you may have missed it on twitter, but PGI hired a PR company to promote the game. Advertising is now something they are spending money on. This means the PR company arranged interviews with the gaming press and provided general copy from PGI on the new features. This is standard practice in all PR and journalism. No money changed hands except that PGI is now paying to get its game out there.

So... you know..... try less Alex Jones and more reading and investigating.

The big news is in the second article where Russ 100% confirms that PvE is coming and MWO players want it.

Ya sure thats great but there is no pilot creation and players are still stuck in the mechbay when not on the battlefield. I mean even Star Citizen players are going to be aloud out of their hangar eventually. :) What about us Mechwarriors?

My review is pretty much the same, except the mechlab/mech selection screens are far more usable.

Nothing else changed, just an improved mechlab system.

Ideally, we'd not only have pilot creation and stats, but a bunch of out of 'mech adventures to choose from, but I'm not holding my breath.

Ya really. But at least players could run around the mechbay in first person and see the mechs maybe on distant platforms or what ever. Disembodied head what ever. :) I mean maybe players could float to a door and zone into a pilot quaters screen or something. :)

Mechwarrior has a static Mechbay screen when not out on the battlefield, with the only entertainments being trying to decipher the UI. Star Citizen players are all half crazed with nearly nothing to do in space and running circles in the Hangar but at least they can check out their ships and theres doors, they lead no where but still. :)

I think you're not understanding something here.

People are pissed at the shortcomings of the UI changes. Some people like it (those that don't understand usability at all and are happy to derp around for the sake of derping), some people like certain parts (the vast majority of people), and some that simply hate it (basically, the people that just hate change).

I'm in that middle group there. Some things are nice, but it's painfully obvious how crappy some of these changes are and the crappy parts happen to be somewhat major.

See, it isn't that people hate the game when they assume the positive reviews were paid for. It's that the positive reviews are of things that were clearly not positive changes or additions. We're assuming these positive reviews were paid for based on the vast coincidence of their timing with PGIs new patch release and video release. We're also assuming they were paid for because seriously, the patch was not very good. There are some really bad parts, and some glaringly obvious bugs mixed in with the few good changes. You don't get a 10/10 or 5 gold stars from an unbiased review when at best you did a 75% good job. Unbiased, educated reviewers will knock them down a peg, which didn't happen.

You think the reviews were paid? Wait till you find out what WoT and SC have in their budgets to feed the trolls in competing games.... (ninja)

I like it. I like the new UI. Its not perfect but it looks much more presentable. It reminds me a lot of the old mechlab when the lobby UI was web based and doesn't disconnect you randomly.

TotalBiscuit and Angry Joe are probably the only reviewers I trust other than scanning most negative comments on Steam page to see common issues.

Also rather than paid, it could be a simple press kit release.

Man that video.. "The thinking mans shooter", I usually find myself thinking "do I stand in the blob or do I run right?". Oh and "are you ready to pull the trigger?", with the majority of games boiling down to two teams hiding behind cover the answer is obviously no!

Yes, it was a press kit release. I posted earlier about pgi hiring a pr firm but no one reads whole threads. Can't agree with tb or aj though. Kind of tools.

Quote from PCGamesn.com. Single playing maps are coming..."As an ever evolving service-based game though, a few short months into the future isn’t planning ahead enough. There always needs to be more down the road. And sure enough, Piranha have big plans. “If we’re looking just a little further ahead, it’s PvE,” teases Bullock. “This is MechWarrior. People have so many fond memories of singleplayer content, and we’re gonna get there. We’ve been building up such a massive amount of content and we’ve got great mech models that would certainly be perfect for PvE content. Great levels of texture content, great battle systems, and all of it’s done. There’s some big holes there, artificial intelligence of course, but there’s no question that we’re gonna get there. We know players want it.”

Did PGI promise PvE in 2012? I must have missed that bit. One of the comments griped it was not done after being announced in 2012?

How are any new gamers to get "real true info" when BS like that is allowed to be posted?

That is entirely an unfair brush to paint PGI with. The original plan was for a PVE title called MW5, remember. Zero investment dollars showed. Thus the F2P Online modeled got the call and has succeeded where the other had failed.

To say now they did not give the players what they wanted is simply BS. Now with more control they are working on it. How in hell can a Dev Group be expected to build an Online game and a PvE version at the same time and not make everyone pissed off.

PvE was never on the table until very recently. Remember they broke the only "Magic Wand of Make Everything Now" Wand back some time ago. :)
