I remember back playing Skyrim that my FOV was recommended to be set slightly different than the default due to my resolution being different than what was standard at the time Skyrim was developed. (Skyrim was developed when 16:10 was big, not 16:9)

What about this game? On a 1920x1080 monitor, is there a "best" FOV, or is the default just fine?

FoV is subjective. Whatever is most comfortable for you is the best FoV for you to run. That's why the slider exists now.

80 FoV meant that when I was turning my head I was looking into the seat's wraparound headrest. I set it to 70 which lets me glance out the side windows fairly well without my view being obstructed. I suppose I could lean forward and look to the right/left, but I usually just want to snap my head to glance quick.

If you do a google search you should be able to find something that will give a value for crysis engine and the FOV settings relative to resolution. I think 16x9 is 79. I have had both 79 and 86 and they seem to work well. Different video cards and monitors can have an affect too based on setting, but the different options are too many for a quick answer.

Depends on the cockpit of my mech. For my Whales, FoV is 69, on 1920x1080.

I think Best FoV is whatever your eyes can handle, since not everyone can handle certain numbers.

75-90 seems to be the most comfortable.

This is like asking what the best ice cream flavor is. Some people can get by in life staring through a cardboard tube at 60 FOV. It gives me headaches. I at least need a FOV of 75, though between 95 and 110 is my sweet spot.

I like 90. It gives you a nice view of your cockpit, without obstructing too much outside view to compromise combat efficiency.

Plus, at least for me, it makes the environment look like it's properly scaled.

Depends on your monitor, aspect ratio and resolution. If you set it too high, you'll suffer from fish-eye lens effect and everything on the screen will become smaller. If you set it too low, you'll feel like looking through binoculars all the time. Though, you'll also see targets better. It really depends.

Depends on how far your eyes are from your screen.

varies by user. I find 79 to be perfect. Minimal distortion, great peripheral view. Would guess for people running multi monitors, it would also be different.

all I know is the stock FoV sucks hard. Feel like my face is stuck on the windscreen and I'm in zoom mode all the time. I had to do a clean reinstall about 2 months ago, and for whatever reason the User.cfg would not modify after the reinstall. So I had to play face to the window through all the tournaments. To have held on to number 2 in HBKs while doing that (for the days I actually played) was very hard to do!
