Did that game just turn into this. I was looking forward to it. I like the strategic gameplay shown in that trailer.

You'll have to be more specific. There is strategic gameplay shown in the current gameplay trailers for this game.

because yeah, that game was abandoned. It was going to be a single player storyline in the vein of previous mechwarrior games, but they sacked it for a multiplayer online game that you see today. Personally, I like the decision to offload the story to the community. Since battletech has such loyal fans, why not give them a means to create their own timeline in the Succession Wars?

The vid clip is still in the vedio section of this web site. That game never got created, but did morph into this version, MWO.

Naturally that would be ideal, but unfortunately games tend to necessitate focus between single and multiplayer modes. If a game tries to deliver a great single player experience, the multiplayer suite may suffer and vice-versa. Very few games have been able to sufficiently balance both (eg Modern Warfare to a certain degree, Halo 1 and 3) without having one feel unfocused or tacked on (Dead Space, Bioshock, Halo 2)

I wouldn't mind a co-op campaign mode, some time down the line. Obviously that's addressed at all after the main game is solidly done.

That's too bad, that was definitely one of the best trailers I've ever seen.
