Caustic attitudes is pretty much the reason I left League of Legends. Even with all my friends playing I couldn't stand the community.

I fear that that with the influx of players from steam, the team-blaming/elitist attitudes could turn away new legitimate noob players who might actually want to play and get better. And with steam coming the noob will be prevalent.

Or worse, it might encourage that kind of caustic behavior.

Also please note: I know the MWO community is generally polite and well behaved by comparison. I'm not new, playing since closed/open beta. Whether I'm a noob or not is up for discussion among those who drop with me. Yes the internet is just cesspools of hate but my view is we don't need to encourage it. Edited as I don't think I conveyed my stance as less of a complaint, and more concern for the future.

Doesn't help when you end up on a long streak of losses. Even if u dish up 500+ damage and rack up a few kills. Constant losses suck and after a while it makes you caustic.

Thats the 1-1 MM helping you to have a great time

You will find that people will be much less abrasive towards you if you listen to strategy and engage in teamwork rather than playing CoD: Mechwarrior.

Steep learning curve, but you notice how very few people ever ask the more veteran players what they should be doing? Some things happen because players will them to happen.

On the topic itself:
Well, it's moreless always the same in games.
Some flames are justified (e.g. people insisting on pursueing suicidal / non-helping strategies despite being explained otherwise), some are just mean.
You'll have to man up and deal with it, I'm afraid.

I find the in-game community much less caustic than the forum community. Compared to any other multiplayer shooter I've played, text and voice in MWO matches is downright angelic.

I think this community in general is pretty good. It has a lot of drama queens that blow up on the forums over minor things from time to time, but overall the community is good.

There are always people that will give build advice for mechs, strategies, will joke around (like the gifs thread), and even host make shift giveaways (thanks again to Crotch Rock it for the Locust 3V).

There are a few bad apples, white knights, complainers, etc..., but overall the community is a pretty good one IMO.

P.S. I covered more the forum community, my bad.

In game it is what it is. If you PUG play, you will always get the people who complain about their team. It seems to happen almost every game, but if 1 out of 24 people say something rude almost every game, that really is a small percentage. There are many more that say "gg" or "well played". It's the internet, you will never get away from jerks, but I feel MWO is actually pretty decent by comparison.

Games like CoD, it feels like you're dropped into the middle of a day care. Best to leave the headset off and everyone muted.

Forums are a mixed bag, actually. You will find gentlemen and $#!+heads. But you have to understand, majority of players will be testosterone-adrenaline addled so be careful. Don't mind the trolls too much and take everything with a critical mind. Keep your wits about.

well not really, but i pretended :3

it's all calling in normal drafts they annoyed me so much, everybody tried to make me support every game, i was a good support, but every game to be janna... eventually i got some very bad habits and still kept some of them i mean, im usually completely loyal to my team but i make them hate the time that they play with me

Why? Why would losing matter? You did good, even if your team couldn't work together. It takes teamwork to win. Be happy with your results even if the team failed to be better than the other guys.

Yup

In PUG play, that's about all you can really expect.

It's not really a cohesive team vs a team, it's more like 12 individuals with the same general goal playing against 12 other individuals. When that happens, results can be anything (including long loss streaks).

I just try not to get to worked up. Just do my best, try and stick with the team, shoot at what they are shooting at, and hope for the best

Oh don't get me wrong. I don't take the rage comments seriously. Played since the start of open beta, I know how to play but with the Steam launch looming over the horizon I just worry about that shift of attitude.

Oh and my standards might be low but a couple of kills or 500 damage is a win in my books. I am playing mediums most of the time so that might explain a thing or two.

Must be the beer or the age, but... untill half OP post I was thinking it was about pugs actitude in Caustic (nascar, etc).....

That said, I really think I'm having a lot of fun playing and the community, average, is not toxic at all. There are exceptions, of course.
But mainly I lol and have good time.

I dropped once in my Locust (4x small 1x med) and died a gratuitous Marine Corps death. And laughed about it. then one drop in my Atlas-S and did ok as usual.

Game still playing fine, frame rate was a touch better yesterday too. Average was in teh 20-30s.

I'm still surprised how tame and civil in-game voice chat is right now, even text chat is relatively 'nice' for lack of a better term. Forums are always going to be some of the worst parts of a game's community (particularly the official ones) without some very serious, questionable moderation going on 24/7.

I'm a casual player. Don't participate in CW or even my unit's competitive team. I'm here to have some fun blowing up big stompy robots.

If you take this game seriously, you will get frustrated and become caustic. If you relax and play to have some fun, you are more likely to have more of that fun (even when you get a losing streak).

I recall the time I lost like 10 matches in a row. I went into the next one and typed into chat "okay guys, I've lost 10 in a row, don't muck this up by letting me win" because if you can't make fun of yourself and your current situation, you set yoursefl up for some hard times.

This community is fine.

However if you expect to never encounter anyone hostile on the internet you are in for a bad time.
