The question should be, "Why does such a little mech get 3 Large lasers?"

It doesn't.
Two.

Bishop, the answer is obvious.
The machine gun ER LL locust 1v :^)
Seriously, cooldown mods and quirks make it ludicrous.

Gonna admit: only read half the total thread at this point. Mostly because a lot of it started being Bishop snarfing off at people, which is normally at least comical but in this case I had an actual semi-legit comment to throw out there.

Having read at least twenty "read the OP" responses from the Bish so far, I get that the man is not referring to the people who actually try to make the 'Mech work. The point, I suppose, is that you can't use a thread title like "Is There Anything that Takes Less Skill to Run than an ER Large Laser Raven-3L?" and then not expect people who actually like the 'Mech/playstyle to not emerge to defend their choice. If the thread had been entitled "Is There Anything Worse Than No-Talent Hacks In 1k 'Sniper' 'Mechs?", and then used the 3L build as an example of such, that would have been an entirely different thread. Probably a shorter one with a lot less snarling.

Heh, but Bishop does so enjoy his sensationalist thread titles, eh? :P

Anyways.

If I were to run my 3L again - and admittedly, this thread kinna makes me want to do just that - I would run it as a DuaLarge machine because Ravens are awful in close quarters, Huginn and its stupidiculous SRM quirks notwithstanding. They're just about the easiest 'Mechs in the game to leg, and since most Ravens require a mix of SRMs and lasers to do close-range builds due to hardpoint restrictions they don't get to go full ham on their quirkset the way Firestarters (or Hugginz) do. They just don't contribute as effectively in a close-quarters skirmisher role as they can in a medium to long-range role. Not if your objective is to still have feet by the end of the match.

It's sad because lore-wise Ravens are among my favorite 'Mechs in the 'verse, and I used to enjoy my Ravens a great deal. These days though, the things may as well have Blast Panels™ for legs. When, when, WHEN is PGI going to revisit the poor Ravens' hitboxes?

Lahdee, so much old nerf to undo...so little chance of it ever happening...

well, what really makes it nuts it he accel and decel. If it couldn't pop in and out so fast, it would still go splat real fast like, lol. But that combo can make for one pesky mech. I notice not too many bads use them though because they take a little more effort and are less survivable/forgiving.

Hey gotta stir up business somehow.

And it works like an Litmus test all at once to see how many just read the title and start answering, and who reads the post.

Let's just say that the ration does not seem to be for actually reading the post.

As for what it says about people who pop off without actually taking time to know WHAT they are popping off about? I'll eave that for you to decide. ;)

First, yes, just like any chassis, you do have good, skilled players that use it, and use it well. So obviously, it takes skill to be EFFECTIVE with one.

This is in regards to the legions of can't aim, hide 1000 meters away lightsabering your ERLLs all over the screen, players out there. Take you ecm and do something useful with it.....like actually support your team, or be part of a wolfpack.

Yes, you can eventually accumulate a few hundred damage, and sometimes even vulture a kill or two, while largely protecting your paintjob. Or, you could L2Aim, and be an actual asset to your team, fighting at closer ranges, where your lasers actually do some damage where your feeble aiming skills might let you at least keep that beam on the enemy mech, and again, yes, put your ECM to a better use than trying to protect your delicate epeen.

It's pretty bad when I vastly prefer you to be on the other team.

The Build itself can actually be a highly effective contributor. It's the Call of Duty, solo Rambo Hero mentality that seems attached to it the majority of time that is a detriment.

/rant,

you may now return to your QQing about the new Mechlab.

Ummm streak scrows?
