The Mechwarrior games have always had something enjoyable about them. With all the variety this game has, I know that some people play for the challenge or just for fun. What do you mostly like to play about the Mechwarrior games?

I love these games because of the storyline, it actually makes you fell like your part of the history and lore. Every mission you take impacts the story deeper and unfold different events in the mechwarrior universe.

The only examples could think of making huge impacts were the Mechwarrior 4 series.
Mechwarrior 4 Vengance-You get vengeance on your family's murders, later on you have to save your sister or go for the armory for the ending.
Mechwarrior 4 Black Knight-If you help the KFA they become your allies, if you don't help them they become your enemies.
Mechwarrior 4 Mercenaries-Getting blacklisted by the Lyrans or FedSuns based on your missions. You can dedicate victories to Steiner or Davion as you work for them. Infamy and Nobility morales can determine what missions you can take .Different Mercenaries(specifically The Kell Hounds and Grey Death Legion) have different dialogue about Davion and Steiner throughout missions.

"fun" and "entertainment" seem equivalent in this context.

Innersphere realestate agent would tell you its all about location, location, location. So woud it be a surprise if I told you for this old mechwarrior its all about enjoyment, enjoyment, enjoyment. Sure I'll be in the game for the competition, for continuance of the mechwarrior experience, to make new friends and did I mention for the enjoyment. Hope you see you enjoying it as much as I will.

Story. I'm sure I'm not the only one that has gotten lost wandering through sarna looking up lore.

I chose mech battles but what I really enjoy is playing around with customization. Seeing what I can effectively cram into a mech. Seeing small scout mechs that speed around the battlefield with an unexpectedly large amount of weaponry is always fun.

i feel the 3 options were somewhat limiting.
if it was just about the mechs i'd surely enjoy the armored core games.... but i don't.
the story here is rich, which is great, but so was Metal gear Solid. and they even had mechs, but that i could play once end never again.
this is a different breed of 1st person shooter (or any shooter for that matter.) its not just about headshots.
This is a one-of-a-kind tactical shooter. Where (what part fo the mech), What (what weopon you use) ,and Who you shoot (be it the light scout or the lumbering gun boat) all have measurable impact in the final outcome. The mech class custimization puts all other shooters AND mech games to shame.
it's methodical, but surely not slow.

This poll bring, and particularly SocksofDoom's post, seems like agood segue for a pretty big question for me. If the answer is out there I've missed it.

Question: Are teams, or at least lances, going to be from players from the same house/clan? If so, in which battle types will such restrictions be placed?

I understand that having this restriction will greatly complicate matters - what if 3 people are friends in real life and want to play together yet, in a roleplaying/thematic sense, they want to remain true to their chosen house/clan. Seems like there are 3 likely situations. 1) Players from all houses/clans are thrown into battles regardless of game type, in which case 'story' goes out the window, leaving only Mech battles. 2) In normal battles there's no house/clan cohesion, but in the persistent battles for global/galactic territory it will be house/clan Vs house/clan, in which case 'story' and 'Mech battles both get their place in the game. 3). All battles, regardless of type, are house/clan Vs house/clan, in which case I can see real problems with real-life friends being unable to fight side-by-side if they stick to their (likely opposiing) personal preferences for house/clan.

To be fair to Piranha, there's no win-win solution to this problem, though after the disappointment of seeing Russian, American, and German tanks fighting side-by-side in World of Tanks, I really hope it's going to be something like option 2 or 3 (or a 4th option that I haven't thought of). Being part of something cohesive, warts and all, is better than being part of a disparate team with no cohesion or theme.

Omniparlous.
