LBX or AC/20 or Gauss or UAC/5. Tack in some MGs and other laser weapons. Enjoy.

As long as you're going at least 64.8 kph and hang out near assault mechs you're going to do alright with them. If you want to adventure away from assault mechs, then shoot for 81 kph to 97 and stick with heavies/mediums. They will draw all the attention away from you, allowing you to blast the living crap out of them.

I'm right there with you. It's so embarrassing buying a new 'mech and not being able to find the hatch. It's pretty awkward asking the techs where the damn door is. I find that, usually, it's at the top of the ladder.
