Well I USE Voip, and I think that if everyone used it as standard, it would take the game to a whole other level. Cooperation is life in this game, and when PUG's don't cooperate, things get messy.

I'm a proud member of CWI and love to drop with the unit members over Teamspeak, and I really can't understand why anybody would solo-out when the feel of the game demands cooperation.

I mean, if you follow the lore... there were no radio-silenced one-man armies on the battlefields. And even if they were, they were either short-lived, or became heroes. Not every PUG is cut out to be a hero..

Please, I implore you.. USE VOIP! Even if its bad quality, if you have the technical ability to use it, use it, it makes the game feel sooooo much better, immersive, and increases chances of winning.

Why don't I use VoIP? Mostly because I don't have a mic, and I don't feel confident enough to share my voice with unknown people who will probably mock my voice because hell not all people here have badass baritone / deep voices y'know.

But mostly because I don't have a proper headset. To be honest, though, most of the time I can't quite understand what people are saying because of distortion and/or their voices being a little thick on the accent (no offense). But I do appreciate those that give info and help us focus down [x] target - you guys just made our PUG lives a little easier.

Reasons people don't VOIP in PUG
  • The team doesn't listen, so why spend energy on talking, and a lot of people don't use the same "language" (either literally or jargon wise) so the team doesn't know what the talker is on about

I love this one. The reason people turn off VOIP is because people turn off VOIP?

How does a mic prevent you from hearing your toddler? I would think the explosions, stomping, and such would do more to make it so you can't hear him than you saying "Timberwolf in D4".

Age...It gives you the wisdom to avoid VOIP/TS unless you are in a unit you can acutally stand listening to

I'm a 45 year old gamer who still finds the need to placate 32 year old gamers when we have been giving out perfectly good information over VOIP that they didn't hear because they disabled it and so are now ranting in text about the team not following them over suicide ridge into a firing line that was pointed out in VOIP.

I especially like solo dropping in CW when nobody on the team is using VOIP. It's a sure prediction of a loss..........and the rage in chat when it happens.

I don't know why people don't use it. (though i have not been as my mic stopped working for some reason and i need to get another, brand new headset too!)

Not sure what kinda internet connection you have that would make it increase your ping by any amount..

Voip does not effect my frame rate at all, and i hardly have a top computer, and zero change in my ping.

If you are having ping and frame rate issues, you should probably contact support and end along your DX-diag

why bother, no one goes to different points in the maps 90 percent of the time. River city, alpine, Terra, Viridian, all of these everyone goes to one spot every ******* time, its not the best spot on the map even either, people do not know how to tactic, people only know how to follow the other cows off the cliff.

sadly I think If you are in my unit...I should value and respect your opinion, tactical awareness, etc etc...or at least find it tolerable if slightly dumb...
I find unless I am the commander or at least in a high enough position to modulate or field goal *******...******* proliferate..
and while I do enjoy the occasion religious, or political discussion.....
particularly with some Americans.....I start to feel that as we are North of them...we really should get to play the role of the Visigoths eventually..soo that is something to look forward to..

so you dont like 32yr old tactically inept gamers...
Yah those ppl suck...at all ages

you know what we need....Mechcommanders :)

VoIP doesn't mess with my ping or FPS at all, and I can't say that I've noticed that others don't usually follow commands given by others through VoIP.

I am generally shy, and a little reluctant to speak up to a group of people I don't know, but I'll set that aside for quick "emergency" things such as "lights jumped the other gate and are attacking Gen1", or whatever.

When other people speak up, about half the time I have a had time understanding what they are saying because of their sound quality, their accent, or their lack of enunciation. I grow tired of telling people their sound sucks and helping them correct it.

If you want to lead, cool... more power to you. Please, test your mic elsewhere beforehand and make sure you are speaking very clearly. Mumbling orders with your mouth away from the mic only makes things more confusing.

My favorite is when people on your team argue angrily through text when they both have mcrophones. You old men are weird sometimes.

good, i for no VOIP and i disabled it when it first was released instantly.

it's wasted resources, a stupid plan and on top of it not needed in MWO.
for that i say Disable VOIP. let your silence speak.

This. That's excactly what I did ... by turning of VOIP ^^

Jokes aside, I never asked for VOIP. I'm not the kind of guy who steps up to 11 other strangers and starts to chat in a foreign language in real life, so why should I do it online? It's just not for me.
Also, using a head-set for gaming is not a comfortable solution. Even if mine feels good I rather use my hifi speakers, but speakers don't go well with a mic. It's a personal preference.

It's useful to have a default VOIP in the game. It's not perfect by any means, but compared to the C3 fiasco (for those of us who go back that far) it's great.

Only problem is you get those drops in which you know VOIP is going to be useless. Not because it doesn't work but your team is broken. Sometimes things don't "gel" .

My only issue with it, is people need to stop speaking with the mic right against their lips and coming out mumbled.

And others need to turn up their out bound volume so that they can be heard.

I never turned it off... only in one drop have I heard someone being childish over VOIP.

Him: "I'm being left behind."
Myself and others on team: "Where are you."
Him: "Back here." "I'm the Direwolf."
No coordinates or landmarks mentioned, just "over here" so we try to find him but 20 seconds later....
Him: "Getting swarmed by light I need some F@#$@#% HELP!"
Us: "WHERE!?!"
Him: "Now I'm F-in dead. What a P-o-S team that doesn't listen. I call for help and no one responds &^%$#(( *%*$)&^) *(&%&*$&%&)&^...."
...and then he was muted.

It's been so useful in those matches where we do use it that I don't even care about these VOIP whine threads.

Mic=my talking would wake up the household. Happy wife, happy life....
headsets=loud noise in my ears causes me not to hear my household.
speakers=I keep my speakers so low I can almost not hear them.

I use VOIP and it has no effect whatsoever on either my ping or my fps, and yes I've tested it. On or off I get ~70 fps in combat (as high as 120 fps out of combat) and my ping is 82-85. Something's wrong with your system, not the game in this case.

I use VOIP and TS at the same time when in the group queue with different PTT keys. That way I can communicate with either group.
