This probably what EVE PvP should have been.

I played FS for a bit, it was great. My reason for uninstalling it is simply that my potato can't handle it that well. However, to anyone who a toaster or up, Fractured Space is worth it (was on sale yesterday for 5 bucks, on steam)

I guess my situational awareness sukcs but it takes a longtime to scroll up and down to zoom in/out. Most of often than not, I was involved in a heated battle with the enemies while suddenly I heard that bleep bleep torpedo warning sound and had no time to dodge. Can you click to max zoom in and out like in MWO? So I don't need to waste precious time scrolling.

On your HUD you get an indicator of where the torpedoes are coming from. Also, generally speaking, if there are enemy destroyers, or carriers, expect torpedoes. Lots of them. Depending on how close they are to your front, it might be better to swerve into them, and let them swim past you on either side, than trying to turn away, and getting broadsided by them.
TL;DR: If there are destroyers, and carriers. Get used to being on your guard. Also, your HUD shows you where the torps are coming from.

I think this is a good advice and coincidentally what I'm practicing to do. If I see enemy destroyers now I just keep my distance and if not possible, run away from them!
I still have to train spotting bombers though.

You can always send in a suggestion. That's what betas are for.

If you see Japanese carriers, cruisers and destroyers --- expect lots of them.
Not just that, but the Japanese torpedoes have significantly longer ranges than the US ones.
If you see smoke screens, stay away from them. That's where usually the destroyers lurk.
Destroyers also lurk behind the islands, so be careful passing through tight channels. They love nothing more than to ambush a careless battleship.
If you see Kitakamis in the game, expect a LOT of torpedoes. If you see an enemy Kitakami, shell it from a distance and don't even think of coming close. Prioritize blowing them to bits.
Japanese destroyers tend to be a bit stealthy. They require shorter ranges to spot them. That makes them deadly when combined with smoke screens.
American destroyers tend to be brawlers. Their torpedoes are shorter ranged but compared to Japanese destroyers, they got better main gun and AA armament. Due to the shorter torpedo range they are more likely using the islands to ambush.
American cruisers lose their torpedo tubes above Tier V. They become massive gunnery platforms from there on. Their high rate of fire and dense volleys are very good in smoothering enemy destroyers. Their massive AA are very good in dampening torpedo and dive bomber attacks.
Japanese cruisers on the other hand, have progressively improving gun, AA and torpedo armament. They can be gunning you down but when they are up close, they can release a spread of torpedoes to finish you off.
Japanese light cruisers, which you will encounter on the early tier, can be regarded as enlarged destroyers. They are also eager to lay torpedoes across your path.

Very good advice indeed. Right now I play a Lv7 {Capellan} Destroyer and yes, torps are my main weapon. The guns on that thing turn only slightly faster than a Battleship and I only have 2 turrets (WTF!). But my torps, they are sweet.
My biggest problem so far has been torps too. I do well against enemy BBs and Cruisers, but always loose one on one battles against other DDs
Can't wait to get the L8 Destroyer. But most probable will not have time to do that before the wipe
But on the flip side, the OBT should also give us the Russian ship tree and possibly even the British one. That's going to be sweet.

And now, yes, I always keep my distance if I see an enemy destroyer. It's funny because it's like a Heavy running away from a Light in MWO, lol (it's because the Light carry a dual AC/20 )

Isn't Mechwarrior online the game that invented stuff like Ghost heat. That says everything that need to be said....
Actually they did not. Ok maybe they invented the use of an artificial scale to effect the heat based off of weapons usage, but the concept of controlling one aspect, weapons even, to effect another in a positive negative way has been done forever.
You may not like that they do it. But they did not invent it. I'm surprised you would even give them that much credit in having original thought?

Worst enemy for destroyers is a cruiser, especially a US one. Cruisers can turn relatively fast, steer away from the torpedoes path, or even outrun them. Their high rate of fire and high damage especially with HE shells, can quickly smother a destroyer. Particularly if the cruiser is a Cleveland class with 12 6" or a Mogami with 15 6" guns. The 6" guns have a higher ROF than the 8", though the 8" has greater punch. The smaller and lighter turrets also have a faster transverse rate. The destroyer gets greeted with literally a rain of non stop fire.
Towards the future we may see the US cruiser line split more noticeably between light and heavy cruisers, allowing more classes to be introduced (Brooklyn, Northhampton, Fargo, Portland, etc,.) I can concieve of seeing more Japanese light cruisers though unlike the US oens, I don't see anything fit over Tier V, so we might be seeing them as premiums. I want to see the Takao/Atago class; they were the best IJN cruisers in the war and their deliberate omission from the CBT (they were in the alpha) sticks out like a sore thumb. There are still plenty gaps in the IJN and US lines; people also want to see the Yorktown class which includes the USS Enterprise, and the USS Midway. There is also much to be said about adding the Soviet, French, German (the Bismark!), and the British.

Most players usually just go out to attack, but I usually hang back and protect my team's carriers with my cruiser's AA. Sometimes I would also follow my team's battleships and provide additional AA cover for them. Taking out enemy planes go considerably in winning the overall game, especially because torpedo bombers are perhaps the biggest threat to your team. After hanging back and observing where the enemy units are, I would go forward to support my team, in capping the objectives or mopping up enemy units.
