i know how to make it work on your system. my system is 64 bit and its running just fine. What you have to go is find the folder you installed it into and detele 2 files

First file Badcard.csv
Second file Vidcard.CSV

This will stop the insande FPS choke you get when you start the game and allow it to run as normal

THANK YOU! for posting that fix MC2 runs smooth as silk again! i have always liked the MC games its to bad they didn't keep making them
Thanks again, take care have fun

Not bad, never thought of that... The way I fixed that particular problem was to force the game to run on only one CPU Core. As soon as I selected only one core in the Taskmanager, the choke dissapeared. The only think I could enver fix was that the game would always jump to windowed mode as soon as a loading screen or the salvage list appeared.

MechCommander 1 > MechCommander 2

First time I've seen MechCommander 1 I thought: "***? Sitting IN the mech is much better than sitting outside of it!"
Because it was battletech I've gave the demo version a shot nonetheless and I fell in love pretty quick.

Years later I've been happy that they've announced MechCommander 2.
Then I've bought it blindly and was reeeeeeaaaally disappointed.
The gfx was nice, but the design of the missions was awful.

I loved MechCommander 1 for its hard, awesome designed missions. I kinda hated MechCommander 2 for the boring-standard-encountered-in-any-random-casual-game "go here and destroy X" missions, which haven't been even challenging at all.

I'd love to play MC2 again, and I will if I can get the source release built :)

*edit*
In case anyone here can shed some light on the subject...

every time I try to compile I get the following error:

d:\mechcommander2source\buildproj\mechcommander2.xnaproj(5662,5): error MSB3073: The command "dodate.exe "\source\code\version.h"" exited with code 9009.

Damn, MCOmnitech doesn't support Multiplayer (it's "grayed out"), supposedly because they used the assets published for free by Microsoft which where limited to SP play only, if I remember correctly.
This is pretty sad, I also haven't found any way around it as of yet. Using the original old MC2 would be an idea, but I'm hearing a lot of complaints about it not running well on Win7, especially x64, which sucks if you want to get some MP matches going, it really limits the playerbase. I was pleasently suprised with MC2 Omnitech though, a lot of great additions (especially a shitload of cool clanmechs when comparing to MC2 classic, I never played MC2 so they might have been there already).

MechCommander 1 is so great, I bought it twice! I wore out the first disc, so I bought MechCommander Gold. That mission where you have to defend the farm... *eye twitch. Challenging and pretty. What a perfect game.

I liked the pilot system a tiny bit better in MechCommander 2 and hated everything else, up to and including the supposed "better graphics."

3D does NOT automatically equal better.

I played them both to completion when they came out and loved them both.

I recently loaded the 2nd installment onto a Windows XP virtual machine but I could not get it to render properly so it was not playable. I really wanted to play that again but technology has passed it by....

Just played MC2 again last month, ya AI is crap. Never played Gold, will see if the works on my Win7 x64 system. Thx.

At my first playthrough it took me almost 4 hours to beat that mission with an acceptable outcome.
On my second playthrough though I've simply taken a minelayer with me and the mission was pretty much a cakewalk.

@dboy: Yes, MC Gold is running on Win 7 X64 like a charm. If you can't get it to run: PM me. I might be able to help. :D

There have been a few Mechwarrior games that have been let downs over the years, but MechCommander 2 wasn't one of them. It's been YEARS since I've played the original MechCommander, but recently I picked up 2 again and started playing through it and forgot how much I loved it.

I did the same thing with Mechwarrior 4, but something about it just never hit home for me. I don't know if it was the terrible acting, or what it was, but it didn't hit home like Mechwarrior 2, Ghost Bear, Merc, and 3.

Ahh... fond memories...

AI walking straight through a minefield chasing a single light 'Mech...

...Now where did I put that disc?

For comparison, the AI is kind of like that of the original Shining Force for the Sega Genesis - it was stupid, charged straight towards you, got stuck in walls, and generally had little to recommend it besides a complete rework. But overall it was still fun, and as long as you're having fun a few technical glitches can be overlooked. :D

I have to add that the live-action acting for MC2 was pretty decent. Watching Colonel Renard slowly and inexorably slide into madness was rather amusing.

The pilot voice clips were also funny. 'Claymore reporting: somebody likes me.' *snicker*

Mechcommander 2 is a good game, I remember how stereotypical the lancemates were, especially Mother,Bubba, and Rooster.

By the way has anyone found out how to work the Mission Editor?

Agreed. The farm mission was driving me and a pal of mine insane for a while, a good few years back - especially without the mission 3's Mad Cat (which is pretty much hax for the next 2 operations if you get it).

However, if you do pretty much exactly what they tell you in the briefing and bring a minelayer along (and actually use it) it becomes quite easy, even on Hard difficulty. That's part of why I love MC1 - it was hard, but it was nearly always fair. With proper scouting and tactics you can overcome challenges that seem insane at first.

I liked MC2's radar system and pilot evolutions were nice too (although way too "cookie-cutter friendly", most of those were "non-choices" with clear favorites, and utterly broken Sharpshooter skill), but everything else felt like a step back from the first.
