Yes, that's the reader's digest version I suppose
I can see me driving the Cheetah and Jag a lot, and I did like Shadow Cats in previous games when I bothered to play a medium.
I haven't gotten the hang of assaults yet, my play style suits lighter mechs the most and my efforts to train myself in the Way of the Fatty has been pretty unsuccessful so far. A few really good matches scattered throughout weeks of pain and suffering as teammates run off and let the assault lance get swarmed.
I agree that the Glad looks like a good candidate for pulse lasers + LB-X. Could be fun if it doesn't steer like a cruise ship.

Do we know exactly what MASC will do? I seem to remember a reference to a town hall discussion, but I haven't seen/heard any details. Will be curious to see if it's a boost to top speed (always or relative to your heat scale), or maybe it'll be a boost to acceleration/deceleration when running hot. I doubt it'll help turning, but turning/torso twist rate increase could also fit the fluff of how MASC works. Nevermind, was thinking of triple strength myomer.
Either way I don't know if it'll have enough thrust to be much of a pop tart, or if the jets will just help it with slopes/small ledges. Even that would be useful on some maps, though at a hefty tonnage cost.
You sound a lot like me in that regard (I favour the Locust over most all others).
It sounds like going up to the Cauldron Born Level at least may be worth it for you (as for me).
I personally went to the Gladiator because, sod it, it wasn't much more, and it got me a bunch more things, and an Assault I
might get along with, and the hardpoints are varied and interesting. (plus its face looks awesome.)
MASC has been stated to work similar to Jump Jets - Fuel Bar for fixed speed boost.
