The lab takes longer for the sub 1600*900 plebs.
The removal of the Equip button (want to equip 9 tons of ammo? Click and drag 9 times. Old version was click 9 times. Guess which is faster.)
Remove of Mech Overview; you can never see what your mech has equipped in it's entirety. You need to click 8 times to view each component, or just drop in the testing grounds to see how much ammo you have; rather than being able to see everything at once.
Removal of Auto-opening menus. Previously, remove an omnipod, list automatically opens for replacement options, and an equip button. Now you need to open 3 separate tabs, then drag and drop.
Ditto for ammo and weapons.
Drag and Drop and replace also causes the occasional issue, having to go back and open another 3 tabs to get the weapon you just replaced with ammo. Equip button would have prevented that.
PGI removed some very helpful features with this new mechlab. But hey, there's an ammo filter now. Who cares that it takes four times as long to equip that ammo.

Not better for everyone; significantly worse for others.

Mech select might be a little derpy, but that expanded tab...it makes it so much better then clicking through a row of columns....

Did you not read the features they removed?
You won't make me quote myself again, will you?
Was that part of a hot fix or something I missed?
All I read was this:
The Improved MechLab
- New methods of viewing and customizing the loadout of your BattleMechs
- A more intuitive interface
- Easier indications of which equipment can go where
- More detailed information for each item in the MechLab
- A new Select 'Mech window, featuring the ability to filter by Clan and Inner Sphere 'Mechs
- Additional features and changes, informed by community feedback
The Expanded view allows you to view and customize nearly all aspects of your 'Mech loadout in a single screen, without having to view by individual components.
- To use the Expanded view, select it from the Layout dropdown inside the Warehouse window
- Please note that the Expanded view of MechLab requires a minimum resolution of 1600x900

This.
The new mechlab and all the nice new features outweight anything bad or even slightly broken with it IMO.
The Mech-Select screen however needs to be either reverted to what we had (because it worked great) or re-worked to function without so many clicks and drop menus.
Being the quick view, quirk information is missing, some basic stats is missing, the Mechbay counter is awol, bunch of little things need work.

...but going back to the previous mechlab? That doesn't make a lot of sense to go back to "bad."
