I think many of you are missing the point. PGI doesn't have to give anything away for free, ever! They don't have to have rewards of any kind. But they do, some are after thoughts that come about by players suggestions, some are them just trying to draw up interest in events, and others are probably to help their sales. Bottom line is it doesn't matter why the choose to give a reward or what the reward is. They are giving away free stuff, and they do it all the time. I can't think of other games that do this.

Yes some rewards costs money and others cost time. But most likely you are playing anyway and racking up free stuff when they have an event. And for this reward you most likely bought the packages already. Not for the reward, but because you wanted the mechs! This is just a little bonus, I think, to say thank you to those who bought the packages. I don't think it is to encourage others to by the packages. It could be, but lets face it you are not buying them for a small bonus reward, you are buying them because you want them!

Bottom line is PGI bends over backwards for this community and it seems like a majority of people only complain! Just stop already. If you don't want the package don't by the package. If you bought them and think the reward is crap, don't use the badges in protest.

I am not saying there are not issues with the game or things that can't be done better, but I am saying PGI puts a lot of effort into making this game great. They also work really hard to try and meet the players needs, which isn't easy considering it is impossible to make everyone in this (any) community happy.

So accept the bonus or don't, but for the love of all that is holy don't continue to cry about it!

Welcome to my list of people who know wtf they're talking about :3

I wish we could have an 'ignore poster' option, so we could stop having to read everything written by those with nothing to contribute but negativity.

Being critical is DEFINITELY a necessity, don't get me wrong, but a lot of people on here take it too far, and it makes me sick.

That being said, it is a surprisingly low reward for people who blew $480 on the game... Wait... Good lord, how much money have /I/ spent on this game? Geeze.... Anyway, um.. But nothing was promised. So anything they throw you is gravy.

They've done a good job of rewarding those who have spent money lately. The Loyalty mech program brought me back to the game. And I have happily watched it improve ever since. And I'm sure there will be further perks down the pipe. Maybe it will be a year before you see them, but they'll be there.

No, that's not the point.

The point is, if you're going to give your customers a reward or incentive - which is great - then give them something they actually want and also which is somewhat in proportion to their investment in your product.

Several customers are expressing in this thread that they don't value this 'reward'. With this feedback, PGI can potentially make better marketing decisions in future.

Your sermonising about how others customers should value the things that you apparently do achieves nothing and potentially does PGI a disservice by denying them customer feedback.

Personally I find it fascinating that you list your prior purchases in your forum location badge as if they mean something. But given your Pokemech Collector Pack mentality, it's no wonder you find another badge an appealing reward. Bully for you, goes to show there's always one customer who will value a giftwrapped ****.

Irony, before they posted the freebie giveaway, you were content, now you are acting entitled. Total integrity shame. I have countless cockpit items I never use that I got for free but I still appreciate that A) someone probably got one too and wanted it and B) it was the thought of something free, not the execution that made me feel appreciated.

If you are so unhappy, call customer service before CW3 drops and ask for a refund on it. Since you are so irrate over free stuff.

Using your logic...
  • Go buy a burger at McDonalds and tell them you want a free Apple Pie (because you like apple pies)...
  • Go to ****'s Sporting Goods Store and tell them that the "Buy 1 get 1 Free on Ping Pong Balls" isn't what you wanted, you wanted a free paddle with the purchase of each ball...
  • Go to your local Gas Station and tell them that you will pay $1 but want 2 Mega Millions Tickets or you are not buying the 1 ticket....
Come back to the forums and post how successful you are...

FYI - Not quite Pokemon, the lack of Phoenix and Urbanmech packs kind invalidates your statement ;) I list it so when someone reads my post, they know I back it with money, not just a windbag whining or complaining with a free account.

Clan Trilogy players will also receive a complete set of 4 Loyalty Medallions. No matter which Clan you fight for, be it Clan Wolf, Smoke Jaguar, Ghost Bear, or Jade Falcon, you'll be able to earn 5% more Loyalty Points for your contracted Clan when equipping its respective Loyalty Medallion.

How dare they insult the real "playa's" with some more Free stuff. A free 5% Loyalty points bonus for ALL the Clans... wtf. No wonder so many are insulted...

OMG! This place is truly beyond whacked..

Your logic is slightly flawed... If I bought 20 burgers and asked for a free Apple Pie, I bet I would get it.

No one gets anything if they bought a single Ala Carte.

It is the whole, the more I buy, the better deal I can get.

I white knight the best I can muster being around since the first few puzzle pieces of the Atlas/MWO announcement.

Honestly though it really does feel like PGI considers the Clan players less important to please and keep. I know more than 50% of the Clan Loyalists feel neglecgted and even sometimes abused.

Here IS pilots, buy a few resistences packs on the cheap and we will throw in some extra mechs and other goodies....

Clan players spending 480+ (depending on exchange rates) and we get a badge...

Clan players even with our 1/4 the population then the Inner Sphere have won most of the events they have done that were IS vs Clan. On average the Clan loyalist has spent more than the average IS loyalist.

Can anyone here seriously say that they do not seem to favour Inner sphere faction over the Clan. The Clan seems to be taken for granted that being very dedicated to the game we will just keep sticking around even though we pay more and get nerfed mechs. They want to balance out the factions. When new players all go IS because it is cheaper and so they have more skill variation than the Clans who are more skilled on average because you need to grind more for more cbills to buy our mechs.

Yes, I know IS has to grind cbills to buy their pricey XL engines and Clans get XL for free, and better XL due to being able to survive a ST KO... but at least you get the options. Honestly the Clans get very limited customization... and all of our equipment costs more to buy. So we still shell out some pretty hefty cbill amounts to mech lab our chassis too.

Now, do not get me wrong with the little rant. I appreciate PGI and MWO. It is one of the only games I play and the only game I play consistently. I have a second family due to MWO with CGBI and it would never be what it is without MWO and PGI. I do still feel like we are not treated fairly vs the IS.

*edit* I know for a fact, being the leader of a 200+ member unit that if it was not for CGBI's community aspect a lot of the long term/playing CGBI members would have moved on to other games now due to how our faction gets treated.

Maybe or maybe not...

As for the rest of the rant, I think the "pre-order incentives" are arguable, the after the fact rewards are not.

You really are clueless, aren't you. Unable to differentiate between someone who is merely "providing feedback to PGI about how the reward isn't particularly valued by them" and "someone so unhappy that they want a refund".

And that's even after the difference has been explained to you over the course of three separate posts.

Well guess what. I bought all the packs. Every single one.

And that makes you even less entitled to tell me that I should not give PGI customer feedback.

Do you even understand that, here in PGI's forum, I am posting feedback to PGI ... and not to you? Do you get the point that I am fine for you to like the meagre reward they gave you. Clearly, you find your little list of digital merit badges of value.

But it's not for you to tell me what I do or don't find of value, it it's certainly not for you to try to stop me from expressing my customer feedback to the company I bought more than $1500 of pixels from.

Nope. The rewards are so minor that I doubt it would tempt anyone into buying these packages if they did not already have them. A title and a badge? ... give me a break. :)

I think it is just something to acknowledge the most loyal clan customers ... not a sales incentive.

On the other hand, if they offered mechs or something really substantial (which they could have done) then I would agree that it would be an attempt to drive sales.

The fact they're advertising it before a close-off date suggests to me that they do actually think some people will see it as an incentive.

Or at least, perhaps they are experimenting with to what extent people will pay real cash for a virtual badge.

Do you think people would still be playing this game if PGI was not proactive in keeping it's fanbase by giving away free stuff? People that pay boo-koo bucks on a free game can cry if they want too. That is why the game still exist, because we are paying them. You think they are doing this for free?

I'm probably naive, but I do think people would still play this game without the extra incentives. Maybe I should say at least I know I would. I have loved BattleTech since its inception in the 80's (yes I am old!). For me this game is almost perfect. I don't feel stressed about grinding, I can login and play for as much or as little as I like and always accomplish a little something.

No I don't think PGI is doing this for free. I am not that naive. They have the identical model as other free games out there. Those game make money off advertisements (check out some banners in the forums to help them out) and the players who pay for the extras. Take Guild Wars 2 for example. There are a lot of things you can buy in that game, most of which actually make you a better/more competitive player. Now I haven't played that game in a while, but for the 6-8 months I cracked out on it I do not recall them giving away anything for free. Maybe a bonus XP weekend or something, but honestly I don't even recall that.

So I do believe PGI would continue to make money without the extra free stuff.

And don't get me wrong. I complain about stuff with the game and make suggestions all the time. PGI is very open to that and generally takes everyone's opinion into account when trying to make improvements. I truly get the feeling PGI genuinely cares about their player base whether they are paying money for cool stuff or are playing 100% for free.

So I don't mind so much when people complain about it taking a while to complete a feature, or something needs to be fixed that is just bad. That all makes sense to me and I can either agree or disagree with those complaints. But to complain about something that was unexpected and free, that is just small little perk given to a few players who have been loyal to the game for at least a year now is just plain old CRAZY!

Truth is I bought all three top level Clan packages. I am not a big CW player, and when I do play I usually go in as a Davion, sometimes as Clan Wolf. I am probably not above rank 6 with either faction (can't exactly remember). And ironically enough I prefer playing Inner Sphere mechs (probably makes me dumb for spending all that cash on the clan mechs! LOL). So based on that the free bonus probably doesn't help me much. But I am still happy to receive it and am glad to know PGI is willing to reward my money spending habits.

There is literately nothing to complain about here in my opinion. Well except for all the people doing the math adding up the total cost of everything reminding me that I spend a zillion dollars on this game! LOL
Truth is I'd still spend it because I have played this game for almost 3 years now and I play at least once or twice a week. I have never had a game keep my interest so long and be so enjoyable over that amount of time. So yes I will spend my money if for no other reason that to show my support for PGI's efforts.

So... badge, title and 4(almost useless) loyalty medallions for 3 top tier packs... generously.
I am sorry that do not share the joy, but personally I would prefer a mechs with unique skin (something like Norns: centurion, atlas, king crab) and c-bill bonus. One mech from each pack for each top tier pack. For example: Nova D for Masakari, Hellbringer F for Man-o-war and Executioner C for Gladiator.
Thus it would be possible to reward all top tier clan-pack holders and with more sufficient rewards.

And a large mohawk.

I mean they have presented Wave 1-2 buyers with Mad Dog after all, why stop now?

Made a whole topic about that way back in Feature Suggestions, so I believe this is the confirmation that all our suggestions are belong... you know where <_< And yes, that is one legit pile of money that ~95% of ALL the Clan pack owners have given them. I mean I appreciate the effort and all, but do you remember the Atlas, King Crab and Centurion bomb they dropped on us back then? That was impressive, but in comparison with that a BADGE is a Jade Falcon punch to our collective p1sser.

Well said n.n

I played MW4:Mercs for well over a decade... I shudder to think the hours I sunk into that game. And we didn't get anything for playing. Mechs, weapons, everything were free from the word go. Not even a Cbill cost for anything but campaign mode. It even had FAR worse programming and glitches and exploits than MWO does... So why did I, and so many like me play? Because it was f*ing fun!

That's why I sink money into this game. Because I expect it to, and want to make it last another decade, and hopefully beyond.

It seems like this extra free stuff is causing many people to become upset. Here is my advice:

If you think the extra free badges are not good enough for you, then send an email to support and ask them to withhold your badges. You'll still get all of the MechPack content you willingly paid for, but you won't have to deal with the extra free stuff they are just now offering.

Problem solved.

You don't think it's reasonable for paying customers to merely give a company feedback about the rewards they offer, in the company's forums?

I don't see why giving feedback to PGI on this reward - which is incidentally also what I did when I told them I appreciated the Mad Dog and Loyalty Mechs etc they gave me - is perceived as "a bad thing". Especially given I took the time to list the kinds of rewards I'd actually value, to help them do better next time.

To help you understand my point of view on this...

I lead Marketing for a Fortune 500 company in my farflung part of the world. I actually like it when customers tell me what offers they do and don't like. It helps me keep them happy, and if I can keep them happy, they'll probably keep buying my company's stuff.

I am never offended to hear that a customer doesn't appreciate a particular offer or incentive. By telling me, they are actually doing me a favour. I appreciate their taking the time to do so.

Google word "incentive"...

Then apply it to something you already bought.... Yeap, doesn't work. The pre-orders are incentives, this more along the lines of added "recognition / reward". ;)
