New mechs? Amazing. Better group-based play forcing people to use IS or Clan mechs on either side? Finally! :) Mechlab? Uh oh..
When I first started MWO,the mechlab felt pretty wide open and intuitive. I don't know if theres some old mechlab screenshots around, but the new mechlab, including buying screen for mechs, feels really claustrophobic and cramped. I'd like to put this in feature suggestions, but for some reason I can't post there.

Welcome back, glad that some of the older players are returning to breathe a bit of new life into the game. :-) And yeah, the Mech Lab is new, definitely not as good as it was before, and can be a little tricky to understand, even if you do not how to navigate through it, but you kind of get used to it.

Trying using the mechlab in the "expanded" view. Helps quite a bit. Colum view sucks.

The thing Im missing is having those slots at the bottom to select your mech for quick access to a new mech after leaving because you died in the last match, but its not ready to be re-used yet. People could buy more "mechbays" with money, and then they'd have ready access to more variants. Were people reimbursed when that got removed? I miss that function for ease of use for playing.

Unless I'm missing something, I have to initiate a lot of mouse moving and around 5 clicks to swap a mech out, compared to the old mechbays that allowed me to pre-load and then be able to use a single click. Loss of functionality could cut down on player numbers.

Hello Alardus.

Regarding the Mechlab, as someone pointed out, try to use it in the Extended View.
For now it is locked to 1600x900 resolution but will soon be lowered to 1280x760 according to information on our forums on tweeter from Russ.
So if you do not play at 1600x900, you wont be able to use the extended view for now.

Regarding the group base play, its just on Community Warfare, on PUGs there is still a mix of techs on each side.

If you have been out for so long, it will be nice if you knew that now, mechs have quirks and those quirks often define the mechs best loadout.

So here is a list of the quirks available.
You can also find them on smurphy and in-game.

Modules have changed a lot also, so take your time to check them out and when you find a build that's "set", you can probably try to take advantage of the use of weapon and range modules.

Welcome back!

Unfortunately, it seems like going up in resolution causes a bit too much FPS drop. Anyone have tips for the Panther-9R? That thing kicks my ass every time I try to use it. Its mostly a sniper with that PPC, but it feels a bit lacking in bite without the umph of shooting through 10-17 points of armor on a light-medium. If I bang on someone, they just dont seem to take enough damage to justify sticking myself out there with a slow light mech.

with regards to not being able to post in feature suggestions,

until you have completed the first 25 games, you can only make 5 posts a day and can only post in new player help, after completing the first 25 you will be able to post anywhere, and make as many posts as you want, this is to make it easier to find inappropriate posts when someone creates an account specifically to advertise or spam on the forums.

It may not be what you want to hear but if i had taken a long break and knew what the game is like now, i wouldn't come back.

The game is as buggy as ever if not possibly more and the new UI's are sincerely awful. Hit reg is completely a lottery and the current Meta is long range laser and gauss builds. Brawling is now very hard and rare.

The Grind is still far too long.

They have specialised and quirked some mechs to the hilt for narrow minded builds but this means that some mechs like the griffin for example seem completely gimped now (imo of course). While of course the inverse is true of some other mechs and they're complete annihilators.

The game is still a massive resource hog and is incapable of operating smoothly on low spec machines or laptops.

BUT, the mech artist (whatever he's called) for the most part is a genius a lot of the mechs look fantastic (still think the clan mechs walk and run animations and the king crab for that matter are nothing short of comical).

There is now a lot of variety in mechs and loadouts and this is the main reason i stick around.

Tournaments at the weekends are to be avoided as all the worst play-styles come out (looking at Lurm boats). and ELO and matchmaker is completely erratic, some matches are very close and exciting others are basically - why bother. Seemingly a lot of the latter at the moment. The Tukayyid event recently has sent a lot of my regular team mates packing, i didn't take part and i'm glad i didn't.

I should of quit by now but something's keeping me here even if the new mechlab is doing its hardest for me to finally put the final nail in.

The old UI was coded very badly so that's why they trashed it. This is mechlab 2.5. It is better than 2.0. No, there is no quick launch but it is a highly requested feature so hopefully they will add it.

Yes it might have been flash-based coded and not flexible to add new features to it, but IT LOOKED AWESOME! and was VERY practical and easy to use, and beatiful to look at. They could have just kept the looks and the graphical interface and recode it with current flexibility and expand upon it.

I actually liked the old one better, but they said it wasn't compatible..*shrug*

The latest UI is better than the earlier change. The one before that gave me a lot of headache. (especially that mini-sized font...)

As for other changes, i'm afraid you need to do some search on smurfy. There were a ton of changes since then.

(Can't help you with the panther, i don't own that)

With this weekends event 12 june 2015 there are mech bays available to win. Also in Comunity warfare level 2, I think level 6 and one more level you receive a mech bay for reaching that level. In just a year with the events and CW you could earn a good amount of mech bays. This is a huge change from before with allowing players to earn mech bays beyond the 4 that have not purchased MC. Also MC can be earned in CW, events and tournaments. The grind will keep you on pace to just fill those bays: upgrading IS mechs, purchasing new engines and the modules. The modules you equip to a mech will cost. Many mechs will have space for 18 million C-bills worth of Modules and some 24 million. I have spent over 330,000,000 C-bills since last September on Modules and I am far from being done.

Got plenty more if you have requests.

Construction of a Dragon Slayer + a lance of Dragons in the first 12 versus 12 matches with the old UI.
