Select Mech Is Unnecessarily Complicated.

I don't see why "Select mech" can't be a feature like similar games as WoT/Warthunder, why do we need several clicks and menus for something so rudimentary and common as changing a mech to another you own?

At minimum it's 3 clicks(4 with closed menus) and menus, 5 if its clan/IS change, when most people have only a few(2-10) favourites and play with those, which could easily fit on the bottom of the screen in a scrollable list.

Simply put the mechs on the bottom(or side, it doesn't matter where) as a list, allow marking some as favourites and then put the categories(assault, heavy, medium, light etc. as tabs right above it which sort the ones you already own and have trials in that list as well).

CW setup could be set on the side with several named presets to activate between quickly in a similar fashion.


If the whole shop mech list is more complicated doesn't matter, I can click to them without issues as it's a very rare thing you would do, what matters is those I own and play with, I want to change between them quickly and easily.

I think this is why I haven't played since the update. Takes too much effort to do anything now.

Russ said they're going to fix it. I think adding in support for lower resolution screen is going to happen first

Don't most people own more than 100 'mechs and are happy with having the mechs separated as they are now? Because i know i am.

Me too. Scrolling through an endless list was more of a chore than the new system.

That's good hopefully they will allow you to keep using the same one. Pgi needs to learn you can't make everyone happy unless you give.them options.

Myself I liked being able to sort the mechs by weight and have a thumbnail view. I have around 70 mechs.

Hello, OP, and welcome to a forum where at least 10 different threads pointing this out already exist but the developer doesn't care.

They care . Russ said they had to go to this screen because of technical reasons. Basically they copied the cw menu because it was fastest. He said they plan on working on it more. The main thing they were doing was the mech lab. I think the new mech lab rocks.

The grid was much better. I don't know what scrolling was involved, but i am not using a low resolution. I have about 60 mechs and they fit on screen.

Having all your mech bunchup together was a mess, i hated it.

You know, options are good. Like make a list for excel people, make nice pictures for mechporn guys and make custom categories for OCD folks like me who want to sort there mechs after color and cooling smell.

And for most, bring back the quicklaunch thingy for 4-8 mechs, please :)

Yes, because logic says they were forced to abandon a working thing for technical reasons. Or perhaps they jumped the gun, didn't give themselves a revert strategy, and weeks after the anger over it in public test still could not come up with the time to fix it.

I like the category system for the large amount of mechs, but I don't like having to select the mech with a button.
I would be happy if I could just click on the picture once and it would be selected like how it was previously.

While the mechlab is great, the old selecting mech function with the mechs on display worked just fine for me.

it shouldnt even be that. it should be 2 clicks tops to change mechs.

And it would only be 1 click if they had a quick select mech screen that let you put 4-8 of your favorite mechs on quick select (UI 1.0 had this and they got rid of it for no good reason).

the game should also remember the last filter settings... so if you set it for clan then it will always filter out clan mechs. etc... you shouldnt have to click the clan filter every time to find a clan mech.

also you shouldnt have to go into mechlab to see all the important details of a mech... like quirks. all that information should appear when you mouseover the mech in the mechselect screen. UI2.0 had that and again they got rid of a good feature for no good reason.

lastly if they bring the grid view back... instead of every single variant getting its own grid, there should only be ONE grid per mech, and there should be variant buttons on each mechs grid to change the variant (variants you dont own would be grayed out). This would would significantly reduce how many mechs you have to search through to find the one you want to play.

One thing at a time, I just hope they at least add that little popup window to the mech select screen that lists basic details and quirks.

I can live with the dropboxes for the time being, but having that basic information about each mech with what its hardpoints are and quirks are, when quick reference is missing like that.. its frustrating.

There was no good reason that PGI could not have also satisfied the people who don't like it the way it is now.

The problem is that some people who own a lot of mechs don't want to see them all at once? Okay, well obviously the answer is NOBODY gets to see them all at once, and even if you preferred seeing all your mechs at once because your mech collection isn't massive that's just too bad.

I mean who would EVER think that the grid view could simply be improved for people with a lot of mechs instead of completely changing it and replacing it with some horrible dogshit tiny box in the middle of the screen--certainly not PGI!

Exactly.

All they had to do was just have one grid per mech and have the variant select buttons like I suggested.

That wouldve cut down the number of mechs you saw on the grid to like 1/3rd of what it was before
