Actually most we have in MW is not against physics, you could do bipedal machines, ACs, Lasers, PPCs, Gauss Rifles, Nuclear reactors, AMS, heat sinks and so on. We already have most of those.
Fact: Lasers that would have significant effect on armor at tank level would have ranges in atmosphere measured in miles, not meters.
Fact: Lasers would have vastly different ranges in thick, cloudy snowy atmosphere than in vacuum.
Fact: Gauss projectiles (big, solid fast moving slugs) that are effective against tank armor would have ranges where they had full effect well over 2 kilometers (2000 meters). See the current rounds fired by the M1A Abrams.
Fact: The larger the bore the cannon, the longer the range. Direct opposite AC2 vs AC20.
Fact: Rotary cannons (such as the Ultra ACs) have LESS a chance of jamming that single barrel versions.
Fact: Missiles do damage by the explosive warhead. Any designer that set a 180 meter minimum arming range on an LRM (with its 1.1 damage potential) and no minimum arming distance on an SRM (with its 2.2 damage potential) would be hauled out and shot by the people who had to deploy it. Don't even get me started on how clan LRMs increase in damage as they get further away till they hit some magic distance. What do they do, gain explosive potential from the distance fairy?
Its a game. Its fun. The physics are questionable at best.
Just enjoy it.
