"hey lets give this mech a unique bonus"

"but it can't be too good or people will cry that it's pay to win"

"okay, I might have something........."

Reduces the effect of a map on your heat level by 50%.

Map is hot? it overheats you 50% less than other mechs would be.

Map is cold? you cool down 50% less than other mechs are cooled.

Its for the Hellslinger Battlemaster?

Yeah, what foxfire said, it neutralizes ambient heat so you run at steady temperatures no matter what map you're on.

Terra Therma will play like normal temp maps, Alpine will play like normal temp map.

Seems nice if you know where you're dropping. Like if you're dropping on Sulfur.

It rules all on vitric forge. The hellslinger is a fantastic mech. Load up 6 med pulse lasers, 3 srm 6 with Artemis and blast away. Heat is manageable with the quirk and all the buildings allow for brawling.

^ This.

Once upon a time it seemed quirks might give character rather than define mechs' viability.

Now that they've also given it a generic -12.5% heat quirk, the Hellslinger simply rules on hot maps.

Apparently it was a one time experiment.

I didn;t think I wouldlike Hellslinger, but it has steadily held as a very, very solid performer for me over the course of mastering it. Like others have said, map heat. What it results in though, is an ability to loadout the mech and know, exactly, how it will play out in the heat scale. It gives it longevity on hotter maps, and that gives it a pretty big boost. I think mostly because if you are building a mech to run efficiently heat wise for a cold map, you will get skunked on hotter ones. So people tend to build for hotter maps, or midle of the road at best. So when you have a mech that mostly negates the hot map effect, those middle of the road loadouts really have a chance to shine.

This is the most innovative quirk in the set, it just violates laws of physics.

You act as if it is a new quirk. The Hellslinger had that quirk the day it went on sale.

So does the rest of the mech and just about everything else about MechWarrior.

Actually most we have in MW is not against physics, you could do bipedal machines, ACs, Lasers, PPCs, Gauss Rifles, Nuclear reactors, AMS, heat sinks and so on. We already have most of those.

Flately false, most of the technology is already here and around, some of it is pretty basic.

And do you think it will work anything like what we have in this game? 18M tall one hundred ton humanoid machines? A tank a fraction of that size weighs the same. Heavier more powerful guns having shorter ranges than lighter and weaker ones? I don't think so. PPCs? No practical weaponized particle cannon has ever been made and we've had the technology for over a century. Heat sinks? The laws of thermodynamics make it pretty unlikely that those will ever perform anywhere near as well as they do here.

That's not the point, none of those devices violates any law of physics. If it can be used to build mechs does not matter.

That dumb quirk DOES violate physics.

More points?
