I started playing this game the weekend of the Tukayyid event but obviously had no idea what I was doing so didn't really participate. I was happy enough a couple weeks ago to earn the hula girl cockpit item as a fun little bonus prize.

This weekend with 33 qualifying games I have won 1.1 million C-bills, 2000 GXP, 185 MC, the oscillating fan item and 3 days of active premium time and am planning on playing a bit more. These prizes seem great to me, especially the premium time.

Is it just because I am new that I am so happy with the bonuses, and in your experience how do the rewards for this weekend compare to typical events? I'm enjoying the 'scratch off' approach to the prizes, is it pretty common or do they mostly use the point system that I got the hula girl with? I've seen people mention winning a mech during Tukayyid but I am assuming it took an insane amount of time and effort to actually win it.

Thanks for your time!

They've done this type of event a few times before, and people loved it, so they are trying to do it more and more it seems, which I am okay with, as it is one of the best events!

I feel that events of this type are THE BEST thing to come from PGI giving IGP the boot. Previously we very rarely, if ever, had events like this. Thanks PGI!!!

This is a great event. PGI does indeed surprise me with how much free stuff they give away. The game is fun and I like the development team.

I hope you stick around a long time and reward PGI for their good work by spending some money down the road.

Oof. I've spent about $80 so far. It all started with the $2 Locust just so I could play with customization :) I also got the Stormcrow mastery pack after a ton of helpful posts in a thread I made asking for advice along with a couple other random things like a Kit Fox for MC.

Every weekend I need to resist the urge to pick up a Timber Wolf and Dire Wolf in the gift store lol. I have been really tempted by the new wave of Clan Mechs but the problem is that I really would like to expand my collection to a weight class other than light or medium and haven't been able to justify dropping the money for the entire wave. If I could pick and choose pre-order mech packs for $30 a set I would have picked up a couple already. I would buy the Arctic Cheetah and Executioner for $60 right now if I could. :(

All that being said, I certainly would have spent more money doing just about anything else than sitting at home playing this game. So I got that going for me, which is nice.

On a related note, do I just not know how to play or is the Trial Dire Wolf just absolutely awful?

Actually any clan mech is not as awful in trial version as the IS mechs are. This is because all clan mechs come preloaded with certain and upgrades such as XL engines which for the clan versions are more robust than their IS counterparts, double heat sinks, endosteel and others. There are two main differences between the trials and the mechs you own. These are;

1) Customization options. The ability to swap out weapons that you may not like or do well with for other weapons is a huge advantage that trial mechs don't have. Also, clan mechs can change omnipods allowing for entirely different hardpoints if the owner so chooses.

2) Mech skills. Think of these as your MechWarrior getting better at operating and driving your mech. It's a lot like the difference between someone who just bought a brand new car and hasn't read the owner's manual, versus someone who has owned the same car since new for a few years, knows how the car handles and pretty much has the owner's manual memorized.
Mech skills will let you eke out every last drop of efficiency your mech can muster, and once you get a mech fully elited, the basic skills become doubled, and once mastered you can equip another module. Pretty powerful stuff to be had in those mech skills.

This event (summer heat) is great, because you get something for every adequate game you play. It's just small things, but it's a whole lot of them. You don't have to grind the whole weekend, just to get the price and eventually fail. You just can play as long as you like and get a little surprise afterwards. Especially the randomness of the prizes is another nice feature, you always want to know how lucky you get the next time.
Sure there are prizes some don't really want, but that diphers and some have more luck than others getting good ones. But Hey it's free and everybody has use of MC, C-Bills, Premium Time and GXP. Cockpit Items and Mechbays are really nice and the low end are the consumables and heat sinks. But since it's for free, I am really happy with it.

Great event, nice rewards.

The qualifying amount is easy enough to achieve for anyone who is genuinely trying, and it applies to all modes and queues.

I also appreciated the additional 32 rewards that I got for owning all three top tiers of the Resistance Mechs.

Except maybe for the jaded MWO day one veterans that have played countless games since Closed Beta (and thus have more C-bills and GXP than they can use) these kind of 'grab bag' events are great IMO. Except for the Single Heatsink I have a use for all prizes except the Consumables, I don't really use those.

I had fun for most of the events, but i'm starting to miss some of the colour/fluff sales they used to have. Plus, i thought they were going to do Lights and Assaults versus the world after they re-did mediums / heavies edition.

I love the randomness of the rewards, the ease of earning them, and the fact that there's a grand total of 100 rewards one can aquire.

The only thing I mind is there aren't any warhorns in the prize pool, and that's a shame.

Now, if only I could finally win me a few much needed mech bays..

It would be nice if you could pick rewards from a pool depending on how good you did in that match..

This type of event seems to come up once a season.
Winter (Christmas)
Spring (St. Patrick's Day)
Summer
Fall (Halloween)

Look for it.

Tukyyid was the worst event yet in terms of effort to win a Mech, if you were lucky and went Clan you could possibly get the Mech for 20 hours work (near instant drops and half hour matches), however it could easily be more than double that with between 15 and 45 minutes wait for a match as an IS player, and 40 points needed for the Mech, also it was not guaranteed you would get a point for each game.

I gave up after getting 2 points for 2 games in 100 minutes

I'm pretty happy with these kinds of rewards. I was working on my SRM4 CD module and the extra GXP/MC was used to get it finished faster than it would have been normally. The extra c-bills will go towards my next Orion.

I don't know anyone who doesn't like these goodie back events. I havent won a Mechbay or Premium time as yet but i still love getting extra Cbills, GXP, consumables & MC. This event has caused me to play more than i perhaps would have too.

:) Thanks PGI ...

The MC is cute and you might get enough to buy a Mechbay or two.
CB is good for many reasons.
Free Consumables, I use them about 50% of the time.
PT increases CB, XP of you need it but you have to use it right now.
Cockpit items are nice, I just wish I coudl trade off extras I do not need.
Even the DHS are useful unless you are a Clanner.
