Ok, can someone explain this to me? Why isn't there any fluff text on any mech, map or events to be found? Not even something like an encyclopedia even?

Need examples of fluff text you want to see.

Just want some Lore? What is happening in the BT Universe at this moment in time?

If that is what you are after, I cannot agree more. I really think some in-game Lore/History in the CW part of the game would be of some help. Might be enjoyable to the BT nerds out there, self included, to have that part of the game represented.

I still have hopes that when CW is out of Beta, we will have some of what we are looking for. Planet history, garrison, and whatever else can fit.

I would not even mind in MWO or on this site, a "This Day in History". Shows what, if anything, happened on this day in BattleTech. Marriages, skirmishes, losttech discoveries, new tech advances, etc.

For me at least, some Lore and History in CW would make it feel more 'alive'.

Explanation:

PGI severely underestimates how much the lore matters, both to established BT fans and to players who are new to the franchise.

See MW2 holoprojector, BT was introduced there, including small novels.

Yeah, it's extremely weird that there is no descriptions and fluff texts in the game.

I mean, as much as I enjoy the core mechanics of MWO, the lack of background for even the mechs is hugely jarring.

Exactly!

There is a whole BT book just for the planets in the known universe in BT!

It is called, Objective: Raids.

Lists what factories are on planet, both mech and weapon. Distance to Jump Points. What Unit are garrisoned, just about everything we would like to see, all right there in one book.

Rotating loading screen Fluff Text on map to explain short stories or quotes to give the map more history/personality/life. "The blah unit once held this place for a full three weeks before their lack of supplies finally caused their downfall."
Mech fluff text "This mech was used for blahblah"
Weapon quotes (randomized) "Forget about the armor repairs. Just make sure my AC/20 has full ammo"
- Mechwarrior X

Hero Mech fluff text (they should already have it or a "read story" button added to the UI to let players read about the mechs, can be applied to normal mechs too).

QUite apart from any ability or desire (or lack thereof) on the part of PGI to update the web site the issue is likely to be the sheer complexity of the Battletech IP licensing. Who 'owns' the information that we'd like to see? Is it FASA, Wizkids? Microsoft?

Don't get me wrong, I'd dearly love to see this web site and indeed the game client fleshed out with a vast amount of fluff, information on the Battletech universe and short stories, but it's possible that licensing the material is such a legal mine field that PGI decided it was beyond a reasonable expenditure of effort.

That being said, I can't see how any company could license the ability to create a game set in the Battletech universe without licensing the ability to reproduce the necessary fluff. The two are so inextricably and necessarily linked that any game can barely exist sensibly without the background material.

Unless the objective really is to create a COD-with-robots e-sports game and not the Battletech war simulator that many founders believed we'd be getting

Something like Mechcommander 2's encyclopedia.

I don't think they have the resources or money to add fluff at this point.

.... What we should be asking is when is PGI going to implement some successful monetizing systems in this game...

1) The core of e-sports is actually the live events which bring sponsorships.
2) No sponsor is dumb enough to fly a team of 12 people from all over the world to a LAN game (much less pay them a monthly salary)
