This is something people that use them say right?

Of course they give you an edge, they can fire your weapons exactly on jam thresholds.

Says someone who doesn't use them because he sees them as hindrance.

IMO UACs don't work that way anymore.. haven't worked in a long time, either you double tap or don't. By holding down firing button you shoot max non-jamming rate of fire?

That is correct.
I believe it was back in 2013 that the Macro was a notable advantage.

He's a bit out of touch.

He may be out of touch but he has the flavor right. No good reason to run macros except to improve your game play artificially.

Is there a macro where I can use a single mouse button to fire 2 lasers out of 4? Instead of chain firing single lasers, I shoot two and then the other two with same button?

No reason to use a mouse other than to improve your gameplay artificially. The Mechwarrior cockpit notably has HOTAS setup.

Yeah, this is where the slight advantage comes in, and why they should have customizable groups or in-game macros. I don't think anyone can argue that 2 weapon groups , timed with a human brain, is just as good as 1 macro'd to perfectly time avoiding GH. Now the advantage is very very slight, but it's there, even if it's a constant 0.01s advantage.

The bigger benifit is less focus on timing weapon groups that can go towards other things like aiming, moveing, situational awareness...the more a brain has to do at once, the less effective it is at doing those tasks.

That being said, it's only useful on a few builds anyways.

Well, some like to use their brawn. Others like to use their brains more ... within legal limits, of course. Think about it. Less mechanical work means more time and effort devoted to thinking.

Mundanes, what can I say. :P

It looks like there is still hope for some of you.

Not an advantage. Brains have no place in MWO.

These same advantages can be said of building your mech with fewer weapon types, heat neutral, or other player choices. They offer advantages as well as disadvantages. Macro users have an advantage, with the disadvantage being less flexibility unless they want to run macro and manual firing options simultaneously, and then they have more things to think about. Whatever the case may be, the advantages in this game are almost negligible, and arguing that we should differentiate players on who is better at clicking buttons makes me think we need to stop trying to turn MWO into Dance Dance Revolution.
