You misspelled "the biggest distribution platform" there, buddy.

My point is not that it won't bring some attention and lots of new players, I hope and believe it will.

But I don't think it will be a huge deal in terms of those players being a different kind from the current ones or in the games image, people are people everywhere. Some will complain, some will like it, some will stay, some will leave. Just like now but with more people.

The game has been out for a while and is already fairly well known within the genre, and I wouldn't overestimate the increased exposure. Games don't automatically get lots of players just from going steam, not unless paired with a good hype campaign. Hopefully PGI pulls off a good one together with a range of polish and improvements to the game, and that could function like a kind of new release, but it's not like the game is difficult to find or download now. My guess is that most people actively looking for a game like this have already found it.

If the game still plays and functions like a feature incomplete beta, it will probably be treated as such. Steam is saturated with betas already, players who like taking part in such projects might like this one as well. If the game looks more like a finished product at the time, without placeholders and a feature complete CW with fluff and macro level strategy and so on, well then we have a different situation because that opens up a whole new audience of players.

As a comparison, overgrowth went steam a while ago. It didn't change much because the game isn't finished. Releasing the complete game will be a much bigger event than just putting it on steam. Same with MWO I suspect.

Again: Convergence Perk in the Pilot Skill Tree. It's still there. If this is not speaking for itself I don't know what is.

They didn't even rename it to "Moneysink".

My prediction is that it will get an average rating at best because a lot of bitter haters will downvote it without the tiniest touch of objectivity.

This seems fairly likely. Even people who are posting on the forum hours every week and have been playing the game 10+ hours per week for the last 2-3 years are likely to give reviews like "Meh, I could take it or leave it. 4/10."

At least some people are likely to do that. Maybe the majority will give fair reviews, I don't know.

Unlikely. I expect half to give polarising reviews.

It already is farming time.

This is what will kill the steam release. You just can't regulate exploiters in game. These are the people that exploit solo que then come here and tell us how great a pilot they are.

The only suggestion I have seen that might work is progression in the que or maybe PGI going hard after farmers and synch drops. As long as factions sponsor TS servers for Solo drops it will continue. Maybe fix the low graphics exploit. Don't know how many times this weekend I moved across cover to have a PPC or gauss shot arrive the instant I cleared.

All the training and tutorials in the world won't mean squat if new players are assassinated like they are now in solo. Last new player I saw which was weeks ago announced it. Sure he wasn't aware who was asking what he was driving. Match starts and he took a dual gauss to the head before he got three steps to LOLs in chat.

Pgi isn't going to kill the steam release. The current attitude in the player base will.

I think they will plop this sucker on steam in Q4. They will add a 4x4 and do some tweaking and minor fixes to the game nothing major though: few new maps just the little stuff.

I pray they add Solaris (hopefully with a ladder system). In that Solaris playground hopefully there is a training mode. Having only team and comp based play will flop their steam release faster than you can say Fatlas.

Website is decent I hope they don't devote huge amounts of energy on revamping it. The game needs more attention than the web address.

Honestly I hope they push back the release on Steam to fix at least 1/4 of the issues, given PGI's slow update rate.

I still don't understand how Steam makes money off this deal. If PGI doesn't use Steam's monetization scheme (ie users buy mechs through steam) then I don't see how MWO will ever be a steam release.

Anyway I am a Steam user so I don't see what all the catastrophizing is about. A Steam release might give the game more exposure, but my feeling is that what will happen is a bunch of random people might give the game a try, giving the game a sudden influx of n00bs, then that bust of players will decay rapidly over time to leave us about where we are now, plus a few people who didn't know about Mechwarrior before and found it to be neat.

But, since I think this game's real appeal is only to Mechwarrior / Battletech fans, I don't expect it to have a large change on the number of players long after a Steam release.

The biggest issue MWO has now is the lack of immersion.

Don't worry, I'm working on a fool proof plan and I am spamming russ's forum inbo--- talking to russ about it.
